Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Dragon Quest XI Confirmed For NX (Yes, XI, The New One)

Here is a little good news, once a studio has it's own engine ready for the NX ports are technically a "breeze" if they are making the game with current game design conventions most porting is just divorcing the game, which is the scripting and assets, from one platform to other. This still takes time, but once they have a engine ready for the console as long as it sells enough most 3rd parties should find the time to do it.

I could swear that this was already confirmed by Square Enix when it was announced months ago.

Wow, so they did let it slip back then. I have high hopes for NX, at least in terms of the Japanese 3rd and 1st party support, which can drive a system to success.

We alaready know this, I want news about Final Fantasy and Kingdom Harts.

Well, this is great news for it to be finally officially confirmed. Hopefully it ends up being a launch title since it would hopefully push hardware in Japan. It would make sense since they previously said that they plan on releasing it within a year of the series' 30th anniversary which would mean before May 2017, so March isn't too far ahead.

It was teased , then vaguely announced and now I guess properly announced? XD

It was announced by Horii at the DQ event which was a slip on his part much like when he confirmed the 3DS games were being localized, some people just didn't want to accept it as an announcement.

It'll get the crappy 2d one that runs on a toaster.

So you're buying the NX then :p

I won't really have any choice because I really don't want to suffer through Zelda on the Wii U.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yeah, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that "different" version means "weaker". That's one possible reason for different, but it could also be different simply because of different architecture or it could even be better graphically or have unique features or controls.

This technically doesn't confirm anything about the power of the NX. It only hints at it, but it could be something as simple as (someone else mentioned) architecture. They probably wanted to keep things as simple as they could for development so they went with what was easiest to do. Of course, there's really no way of knowing for sure until the NX is revealed (along with the NX version of the game).

Glad Square-Enix isn't taking Dragon Quest away from Nintendo, but making multiplat might just kill DQ XI NX's momentum. Seems like S-E wants to blame audiences when it does take DQ away by showing the sales numbers and talk about game development not being a charity. Which is fine and all, but at the end of the day they could have saved everyone some heart ache and time and just not released it on NX.
