Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Next Generation Of Graphics & Presentation: A Quick Look

Its almost too real. Would be nice to see in a few games, but when it becomes that realistic looking, its not really artistic anymore. Its just real life.

But Microsoft said there won't be anymore generations /s

I hope next gen has a pretty good cpu tho. Graphics is nice but I would also like 60fps to go with it all.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

That is insane..... I hope thats true.

The more the "realisitc" games look better, the more then cool art styles will be appealing to me in Nintendo-like games. I'm done with realism.

I would like some more non secret spilling info on this. More details!!!!

How does this tech manage the textures or basically what's the impact gonna be on game sizes? Is this significantly more work for the cpu/GPU or is this just very efficient software implementation?

I looked at the top pic and the bottom pic. Can't see a generational(s) leap between the two. So of the pic at the top is something we would be getting then that's good enough for me. But hey, I say that before every new gen.

What are we looking at, exactly? Would that be something we could see in a traversable form or would invisible fences been needed between the road and the forest?

It's very nice and makes me long for games that get late evening right.

More importantly, how much time is this going to add to the development cycle?

You're thinking stylistic. It will always be artistic no matter how realistic it gets, but what's being removed is the "stylized" look(s) in favor of photo-realism (which is mostly what the artist and my team work with).

Well if you are making each tree in a forest uniqe, it must take ages...

I think they both need a focal point. They look great but a little flat right now.

I don't know why people keep saying this. Look at LoZ:BotW. Do you think that was made with N64 level tech?

Or look at TLG, or no mans sky, child of light, FF15, R&C, SO, Infamous.....etc.

Tech like this shows off really awesome stuff, doesmt mean that the same tech can't be used to make some extremely breath taking "stylized" visuals.

Seems we're still far off from realism in forest and water scenes.  Of course taking good pictures of sunlit forests is almost impossible, can't really expect graphics engines to deliver what digital cameras can't.

It looks great anyway compared to what we have now
