Well, this is Nintend you are talking about! :P |
Well, Nintendo needs something mind-blowing at launch if Zelda doesn't make it! Nintendo Land 2 won't cut it.

Game looks amazing to me but I do worry the story will suffer. I mean they said you could just go fight the final boss whenevr you want. Hoping Im wrong though because to me everything else looks to be a step in the right direction, even if its not the leap I want it to be. |
To be fair, story has always been very much in the background of Zelda games. Te primary avenue for the narrative are the actions and adventure of Link as he travels through Hyrule. I don't think it will be any weaker in this game, perhaps a great deal stronger.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Wind Waker looks utterly hideous, but Breath of the Wild looks beautiful. |
I'll get on that boat too.
While I didn't hate Wind Waker's graphics, I thought it was a miss whereas Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask were spot on, given the tech. Breath of the Wild is probably the first game, since those, that I feel this way about. Although, I admit, I did like the Skyward Sword graphics too.

Wind Waker was the most beautiful thing ever, screw the haters :P
Not anymore though, BotW is the most beautiful thing ever now.

I am curious, did you try WW HD!? IMO WW HD probably has best graphic on Wii U. |
Yepp. Got WW HD with Mario Kart 8 as free game. Didn't help at all. It's got a very clean look, but that's it to me.

It's ok to hate something because of it's looks. I am fine with that. I just don't like when people say "I hate that game because it's too kiddy". It was such a brainless thing to say and made no sense. I'm glad the millenials have, for the most part, let that die off. |
I'm to old for that. ^^
I like when games have a look, wether by design (Mirrors Edge, Mass Effect) or by artstyle (Zelda, IloMilo...)
The look should fit the game though. Witcher 3 with comic look wouldn't make sense to me. A really gritty, dark Zelda neither.
One problem with special designs and artstyles is, people either love it or hate it. Like 'that childish, colorful Halo' or my opinion about Wind Waker.
AAA devss probably should risk a bit more. But a unique look alsways is a bit risky.

I have tried WWHD, yes. While it does boast a lot of graphical features often lacking on Wii U, (1080p + AA, ambient occlusion, anisotropic filtering) it did nothing to remedy the aspects of the graphics that I disliked; the horribly proportioned character models with their giant misshapen football heads and tiny bodies, and the way so many surfaces and objects were reduced to bland slabs of one or two colours, water being the worst offender. (If you're going to make water such a key element of your game, you gotta make it visually interesting)
None of this is a problem in Breath of the Wild though; Link is properly proportioned, and environmental textures and water are detailed and appealing. Therefore, I have no objections to BotW's graphics. I would have preferred it to look like the 2011 tech demo, but it still looks quite beautiful as is.

You dont like WW HD art style, I get it. I agree that BotH looks much better even IMO WW HD has best graphics on Wii U currently.
