Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Zelda: Breath of the Wild receives Best of Gamescom award

Ok, first of all:
I am a big Nintendo Fan.
I am hyped as hell for Zelda BotW.

BUT:
As someone who is regularly at Gamescom (Trade Visitor) I gotta say:
They didnt deserve it.
Why? Because Nintendo, Nintendo of all people, still fails to understand Gamescom.
Its THE BIGGEST Gaming Expo open for Consumers. For someone like Big N that loves to let you play instead of just showing stuff thats supposed to be heaven.
And yet, year after year, Nintendo manages to have a small subpar booth with confusing and stupid layouts and, at best, one or two dozen consoles in TOTAL!
Blizzard had over 100 Overwatch Stations this year, despite the game being already out. Similar numbers for Starcraft, Diablo, Heathstone (All of which received nothing new) and WoW.
Meanwhile Nintendo has barely 30 Wii Us in TOTAL, and a similar number of 3DS.
The best part: Zelda, the game that crashed E3, despite Nintendo having a giant awesome booth with hundreds of stations; was confined to literally the smallest, closed of, 10m² cubicle in the darkest corner of Nintendos booth. During all four days of Gamescom a Total of 50 people (Press not included) were allowed to play it, this was decided mostly by some stupid "send us you best zelda picture"-Contest.

So Yes, I, as many others, am hyped as f*ck for BotW, but seriously Nintendo, get a grip of yourself! How come you manage to rock E3, only to have more stations for Splatoon or Pokken than for Zelda when it comes to Gamescom? Why do you hate Europe so much? This isnt helping your image! This isnt getting back into Gamers good grades!
Bad enough that we couldnt test NX, meaning no one will trust it when it launches early next year, but even taking Zelda from us? This was the first gamescom that I hardly even noticed the Nintendo stand, not to talk about visiting it.

This Zelda looks great. I would love a PC Version. Well maybe a miracle will happen.

Yes, that would truly be miracle. :)

Deserved. The game looks great. Have it preordered for Wii U. Will maybe change it to NX.

Please.

See Zelda threads after E3. No one downplays anything.

These are post E3 quotes:

Uncharted 4: "It's just a movie"
Gran Turismo Sport: "Looks like a PS2 game"
Days Gone: "Another mindless zombie game"
God of War: "Such a disappointment"
Horizon Zero Dawn: "Horizon looks very ordinary"
The Last Guardian: "Looks super boring"
Death Stranding: "Kojima is so overhyped"
Resident Evil 7: "Nothing more than a cheap early access horror game"
Every PS4 game at E3 ran on standard PS4: "I've seen the games, so it's not hard to believe"
PS4 exclusive lineup: "No variety"
Newly announced PS4 games: "No release dates and Crash Remake is not a new game"

Sorry for the off topic but that victim role has been done to death.

I'm not playing the victim card, but it was particularly hilarious that Zelda won every award at E3 this year and people declared said awards worthless even though in the past some of those same had celebrated them when attached to games they liked.  I find it amusing more than anything else :P

Sorry, but not agreeing with and award and considering it worthless are 2 different things. I often do not agree with the academy awards, but still give credit where credit is due. Same with Zelda, I think the fact that it was in development for so long and the fact that it was revealed and looks good had to do a whole lot with the fact that it won. Im not saying it wont be a good game (it will probably be amazing) but there were plenty of other games to be just as excited for IMO.

On the Gamescom win, good going. In all honesty GC was even less eventfull this year as in others, so yeah it kindoff deserves it.

You do have a point here. Best thing on Nintendos booth was chatting with Martin Sauter from Shin'en. Compared to pretty much everything else it'S dissapointing. And after playing the demo at the business area i even understand less why they didn't show it.

I'm not going to take this far cause I already got warned sorta for this, but I will say I know some just disagreed.  But I remember 4 or 5 people at the very least saying that the critic awards at E3 were completely pointless and meaningless, saying that since games that were not amazing when they launched had won such awards (Evolve got brought up) proved said awards were pointless.  Ignoring the logic that critic awards at events like this are based on what is played of the in-development product.  And it is possible for a game to totally deserve THAT but then fail to come together later.  It does not invalidate the awards.

Not surprised, Breath of the Wild looks amazing and one of the best Zelda games (and one of the best current gen game ever made, in my opinion of course)

Zelda: Breath of the Wild receives Best of Gamescom award

The winners are in for this year’s Gamescom awards, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild scored the biggest win. Nintendo’s Wii U and NX game was chosen as “Best of Gamescom” as well as “Best Wii U Game”.

How did you play the demo at the buisness area? Are you a journalist IRL and had an appointment?
