Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: We Don't Discriminate Between AAA or Indie

In this case I kinda believe it, what with the spotlight they give some indies in their conferences and the equal attention they get on their YouTube channel. Whether they're that big a deal financially I think Sony just loves how these small and numerous titles really help pad out a lineup.

No one discriminates between AAA or indie, as far as I'm concerned. Particulary when the later is a word that has lost most if not all its meaning at this point.

I do

How dare you! Time to walk the plank, ka-pi.

Unfortunately, some people cling to the idea that everything falls into two extremes.  Given the huge diversity of budget and scope that we're seeing now, that doesn't make a lot of sense.  By being narrow minded, they're just limiting themselves.  I don't really understand it.  I judge each game based on the game itself.

I still like No man's sky... The only thing preventing me from playing it is that certain planetary systems or planets causes the game to freeze. I constantly crash on certain planets more then i do others.

A lot of indie games are great, we just need to remember that it is small budget games due for smaller studios ( Budget as in graphic) Money budget can only be spent towards technology or speeding up the progress by hire more workers or cut down progress by using creative art-work and the rest depends entirely on the skills of the studio... Since most Indie-studios is run by former employee's who managed to save up and build their own surely got the experience they need to start and will grow over time.

supporting indies today, is supporting the future big AAA studios.

So basically, the more we rely on the few studios we have today and dismiss the new ones who isn't owned or put together by Corporations, which always end up sucking (Almost all good studios today started out on their own in the 80s and 90s which either ended up like massive publishers themselves or pro studios owned by someone else )

Didn't you get the memo. Indie = $15 game. If they ask for any more it's an outrage

I agree with the way you think, it's exactly how I think when it comes to games.

I just wish the general gaming audience wouldn't discriminate against them. I'm sure Sony likes them because indies fill holes in the catalog, and the folks who like the quirkier stuff Sony puts out are likely to latch onto indies, building fan goodwill without investing all the money.

I am Iron Man

Well trophy wise they still discriminate against most of them since they only allow like 1 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze trophies instead of a full trophy list with a platinum. :(

Then again most people fail to grasp a proper definition of indie, because they could be surprised when some of the games they like or love happen to be indie by depending which criteria are we using.

To be fair, they have hyped plenty of games that were met with mediocre reception. Watchdogs, Destiny, and others come to mind. They have been far more successful with indies than AAA at this point.
