Forums - Gaming Discussion - Zelda BotW's and Windwaker are quite similar

Because I know you all want to know, I loved WindWaker. More even than OOT. Now, sleeeep. Sleep my friends. Secure in this knowledge. Interesting observations t3mp. Never gave it much thought.

Why do you dislike Wind Waker?

I didn't really like the sailing or the art style, I felt the dungeons didn't live up to the high standard I expect from the series, and the Triforce shard fetch quest felt like such a maddening grind that I ended up just giving up.

Every Nintendo gen has a superb masterpiece that Curl dislikes with no rational reason conceiveble, just as the 4º gen was Super Metroid, the 6th gen is Wind Waker. What can we do? We like him anyways.

That's cos I'm just too adorable and sexy to dislike. ;)

Those could definitely be considered flaws based on your general preferences as a gamer.  Personally, I never got far in WW but loved WWHD cause it streamlined a lot of those issues.

However, I think that for all the similarities, BotW seems to avoid many of those weaknesses.  The sheer number of Shrines and other landmarks we can see now looks to mitigate the emptiness, enemy camps look to be more frequent than the enemies in WW, etc.  Dungeon design, we'll have to wait and see but the big Shrines look pretty sweet so far so I think we could be in for some great dungeons.  So I think BotW will dodge most of those flaws.

Also, for bonus points on that last part of your post, you should have changed your avatar to something decidedly not adorable.  Like Mehrunes Dagon.  Or Zanza.  Or Trump.

WW's my favourite game of all time, so the more like it BotW ends up, the happier I'll be

Oh I agree, from what we've seen so far, I expect I will love Breath of the Wild, and it doesn't look like it will have any of the issues that troubled me in Wind Waker.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that if the final game lives up to the teaser material, Breath of the Wild could surpass Ocarina of Time to become the best Zelda game of all time in my opinion, and the best game Nintendo have produced since Super Mario Galaxy in 2007.

That's nice since Wind Waker is one of the best things Nintendo has done, but honestly I don't think they are all that similar, BoTW don't make think about WW.

It's not really that the game seems or even reminds people of WW (that's why I qualified the comparison with "quite similar") but that out of all the 3D Zelda, Windwaker shares the most similarities with BotW. And as fan of WW as well, that is pretty cool.

There definitely are a lot of similarities so I hope this game can top The Wind Waker for me

I sort of agree. I was like, 22-23 when Wind Waker came out so the nostalgia of childhood doesn't affect how I remember that game. The whole revinsionist thing really bugs me as I was there and I remember how underwhelming we all viewed it. It wasn't a bad game, but it was a huge step down from the two 3D games that came before it.

Botw seems totally different imo.

Speak for yourself. I loved the game from day one on the GameCube, and so did a lot of other people who could understand that the cartoon look of the game wasn't going to affect their manliness.

Yeah, some people liked it. But you know the majority opinion was not so kind. It was not what most people expected or wanted.
