I can agree with the USB-type C type connector side of this rumor/leak, but I don't believe Nintendo is dumb enough to make a "home gaming system" that can not be charged while being docked as this article claims.

It would be beyond ridiculous.

I also read that at first, but they mean the kickstand not the dock.

Since the port is on the table side, you can't charge it while playing like this.

Well, that makes more sense, although that makes me wonder who would want to charge the device while in that mode. Still, they could have written the article in a way that was easier to understand.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Around the Network

Thunderbolt = big nay.

Its expensive and not needed for anything.

Yeah, Thunderbolt 3 would definitely be necessary for SCD to work properly. You need a pretty fast connection for the SCD's CPU and GPU data to cross over to the NX, and Thunderbolt 3 offers 40 GB/s, that's more than double PCI Express 3.0 x16, which is the current standard for PC graphics cards, which means there would be ample throughput for both CPU and GPU data.

Thunderbolt 3 is 40Gb/s notice the small b.  This is equilvent to 5 GB/s.  A PCI Express 3.0 X16 is 15.76 GB/s or 126 Gb/s.  Way faster then Thunderbolt 3.

small b usually repersent bits

Capital B usually repersents Bytes

There 8 bits in a Byte

Yeah, sorry about that. The page I was reading on Thunderbolt before I posed that had a typo, a large B instead of a small b. But regardless of the mistake, I still think Nintendo should put a Thunderbolt 3 port on the Swith Dock for future usage with an SCD. While a USB 3.0 based SCD might be enough for a GPU upgrade, it would never be enough to handle both a CPU and GPU upgrade. USB 3.0 is 5 Gbit/s, Thunderbolt 3 is 40 Gbit/s. Even USB 3.1 is 4 times slower than Thunderbolt 3.

In theory it sounds goods, but I think if I was designing a modular console with the switch form factor, I would just sell dock stations with different hardware built in and use the port that connects the handhold portion to the dock as the connection instead of going with something like Thunderbolt.  You could design it as a direct PCI-E port or what ever fast interconnection that made sence.

Yeah, not sure if that site is reputable or not; I think it was the origin of quite a few rumours.

`From the preview trailer, the device seemed to easily slide in and out of the dock, it didn't look like it was slotting into a port. I wonder how they made the connection.
