Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is This Misleading Marketing? (Sony and NMS)

This morning I saw a predator chasing two herbivores of the approximately same size, first one and then the other. It attracted the attention of a sentinel that came and inspected.
I believe this was on the list of things that could not be found in NMS.

I've finally got my 48 slot ship and all but one of the hyperdrives. It's so good having so much freedom and pick an planet I please (within reason). Now to find my HOME planet for the base building update. Tropical please, with green grass and cave systems.

The PS5 Exists.

I landed my ship on a planet and the cutest mid-sized dinosaur looking alien came up to my ship and stood on two paws and looked to be happy and smiling.

I mean the thing looked straight out of kinectamels.  So cute!

I opened my ship and walked out to front to try and feed it and the little shit bit me and attacked!  Then it attacked again knocking me off my ship all while having that cutesy smile!  So I smited it and cast that cute, smiling demon to the math algorithm whence it came!

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

I am on the other side of my sig....am I warm or cold?

Sorry, but this is total rubbish. Sony was not involved in developing NMS and isnt publishing it. They provided marketing support. You assume that some Sony guy must have played an unfinished game for dozens of hours and conclude the corporation as a whole must have been aware of supposedly misleading marketing? And then what?

Lol, that is rich.

Furthermore, where exactly did Sony show trailers of their games not mentioning platform and showing content/graphics with noticable downgrade when compared to the final product.

I assume that a company who provides financial support for another company knows what they are providing support for, especially when said product is close to launch. I do not believe that a company is pouring money into something and never has any interest in seeing what they are spending their money on.

As for the other point, I clearly remember a thread about Sony showing a PC trailer of Batman: Arkham Knight at their E3 conference without disclosing that it is a trailer of the PC version, and quite a few posters just shrugged and said that such a practice is normal.

I repeat, Sony was not involved in the development process. What you assume and believe is irrelevant.

As for the second passage, didn't you read what i wrote or did i miss the shitstorm of Batman Arkham Knight on PS4 not being on par with what was shown at whatever E3 conference?

You know, like...

The funny thing about the 2013 Witcher 3 gameplay cinematic was how people tried to blame it on consoles.

Hunting Season is done...

Hmm i dont know...if you doubting whether or not the gameplay shown at the time was real or faked then we cant really discuss this further, as you are making bold assumptions here and are implying that both Hello Games and Sony were intentionally lying about the game. Which you previously said you are not doing.

I don't want to automatically resort to that. There's always the possibility that Sony and Hello Games were overly optimistic about what could be achieved only to find out later as development progressed that they had overestimated their capabilities.

As for the OP and thread - you've made several implications here that you are of the opinion that Sony and Hello Games have indeed gone about misleading marketing.

I don't know if I would phrase my stance in that manner. I would say marketing used by Sony and Hello Games has the potential to mislead people who may not know better. I am not making any statement as to whether this misleading was intentional or not.

What i would say is that the previous builds of the game should have had a note in the video saying at what stage of development the game is at. "Alpha build" etc. most gamers are familiar with those terms.

This would have been nice.

I just think its sad to see this kind of criticism directed towards Hello Games in particular, they are genuinely good developers who care about their game. The way they have addressed their support base has been admirable. Its very easy for a developer to actually go about misleading marketing and then just be no where to be found once the game is released.

I'm sure Hello Games cares deeply about their game but at the same time, their game is out on store shelves and selling at $60. This is a price similar to many AAA games developed by much larger teams with more manpower at their disposal.

Is this recorded somewhere?
