Hope its true. Im tired of buying consoles every few years and seeing nothing but last gen remasters filling store shelfs.

I wouldn't consider anything more than five years to be "a few years". When you breach five years, you've stumbled into the better part of a decade.

The day console gaming starts using a 2-3 year cycle is the day I'm done. Gaming is a luxury. Owning a game console is not like owning a smartphone. One is a life companion and the other is a pastime/hobby. If they think people are going to throw away 400 dollars on a console every 2 years, they're headed for end of the industry.

The way i see people buying unfinsi*cough* dlc games. They will buy a new console every 2-3 year's. Look how peoples went nuts and they repleaced  their xbox one for a xbox one s

He's probably not far off from the truth.

I've said it many times ... your kids will laugh at you when you tell them you needed a shoebox size "video game console" that played games on plate sized shiny discs that needed to be purchased one at a time.

There will be a Playstation 5, but I have big doubts about a Playstation 6.

No, noone's kid is going to laugh at them for telling their kid about technology from their time, that's just a dumb statement. In fact, I'm sure they'll find that interesting and pretty cool. The parents of these kids will probably keep their consoles and their kids will actually get the chance to use these "shoebox size video game consoles that they will laugh at their parents for having used" Also, since you seem to agree that there will be a PS5, and since you seem to think that there won't be a PS6, we are looking at around 2033 or 2034 for the end of the PS5's production, so maybe in about 30 years we will have kids who have no idea what a video game console is or was, let alone laugh at that ever being a concept.

That is, of course, if Sony or Nintendo truly do decide to stop making video game consoles, because if they don't, and continue making them, then we're looking at around 2050 for the concept of dedicated hardware to be "laughable" according to children of people who used to play on said dedicated hardware. And that's only if Sony decides to not make a PS7.

My little nephew already laughs when I tell him when I was growing up to record a TV show when I was out of the house I had to individually program something called a "VCR" and had to make sure I had a blank VHS cassette. He has no concept of that whatsoever.

Dont take MS on their word, i think that's quite obvious.

I hope it's the last console generation ( For Microsoft that is )

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

Considering this is PR and not some insightful read of the industry, this reads to me like "we (Microsoft) will be done with traditional consoles after this gen. We need to start getting the core fanbase mentally ready for this and convince them what we're doing is progressive, the inevitable way of the future."

Or this could be vainglorious "The Cloud" dream-shaping. Hard to tell.

So now suddenly there will be exclusives Scorpio titles if they are VR compatible ?

The backpedaling has begun. It won't stop there. Slowly but surely the message will shift. But one day, suddenly, Scorpio will be the Microsoft next gen 4 years after the release of XB1, like X360 was next gen 4 years after the original Xbox.

People have to understand that they already had a generation that lasted only 4 years with the OG Xbox. Scorpio will also be released 4 years after XB1.

I don't expect it to be much different for Sony either. The initial message is that all Scorpio/Neo games will work on the original models of the XB1/PS4 as well, but since both Microsoft and Sony are actively encouraging third parties to use the additional processing power, it shouldn't take long until the versions for the old models begin to suffer in the development process. There might be the argument of userbase, but shiny graphics sell games, so the prettier versions will be prioritized within a year or two.

No. the difference is that Sony has mandated forward compatibility to the devs on the official documentation. The Neo is after all an overclocked PS4 + dual GPU. the forward compatibility and backward compatibility will be easy to implement and to mandate to devs for all games.

There is no such thing with Scorpio. Forward compatibility will be impossible to mandate. It's not practical, Microsoft won't aleniate developers after what they have done with their XB1 initial fiasco. Scorpio is technically a next gen with an architecture totally different than XB1. Dfiferent Memory architecture, different CPU tech, different GPU tech.

What MS say is all PR messaging. It's empty. But even their message is already changing. Now the VR compatible games will be Scorpio exclusives. And the scorpio is not there yet. Message will change again.

Don't you understand that it's just 101 marketing in order to sell XB1 S? people are so naive. MIcrosoft already lied to us before using disingenious wording.

"There won't be Scorpio console exclusives". technically could mean that as long as you release the game on PC then you can release the game on one console only, the Scorpio. Hell 99% of xbox games are already released on PC too.
