Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft: We Think The Future Is Without Console Generations

The headline is misleading since he just means that console generations won't be as distinct. There will still be new Xboxes after the Scorpion.

When is the Scorpion coming out? Spring or fall 17?

Btw, I doubt the numbers cited in the article that Xox will have sold 29 million by the end of year versus PS4s 52 million. The gap will be much bigger.

I already see people flipping to go with Xbox in anticipation of the Scorpio next year. The power has really resonated with gamers and when it comes out they will not go back to PlayStation and their empty promises and pockets. Future of console gaming is MS and they have the money to buy anyone out that gets in their way.

NX is a new generation so...

Was thinking just that, Wii-U is the first console of this generation and NX will be the first of the next.

Also that OP is just plagiarism city, should maybe at least add a first line to the OP as it currently looks like Fit_Gamer sat down with Aaron Greenberg.

It's almost like there is laws out there that might stop that sort of behaviour Mr Xbrah! Also if MS can't turn profit out of the Xbox division you hardly think they would invest more and more into it? Look at Windows Phones, if a division of MS isn't profitable beyond a certain point they just move away from it, not aim to buy every other manufacturer of Phone.

I also feel this will be the last "generation" of consoles. Though not for the reasons MS seems to be championing.

For me it's that they just don't have a choice and it doesn't make any business sense anymore to hit the reset button every 5-6yrs. And we have the extremely fast mobile computing industry to thank for this.

Once upon a time people wanted to buy things and use those things for years and years. These days people are ok with replacing said things every other year.

So it makes sense for Sony or MS to simply give more powerful hardware every 3-4yrs and try and maintain software compatibility for as long as possible. Eventually the people that own the first iterations of consoles will upgrade and they typically would upgrade to a device that will already support all the stuff they have. So it's just easier all round.

I honestly won't be surprised if at some point we see an option to buy just the console without any peripherals or even a HDD.

This needs to happen, and I am glad both Sony and Microsoft are moving in this direction.

The next thing they need to do is build tablets/laptops and cell phones around the PlayStation and Xbox architecture and offer a fully cohesive line-up for home and mobile computing. This is the only stragtagy that can put them on course to compete with Google and Apple.

As a gamer, I need Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo to compete and succeed, otherwise an Apple/Google future looks extreamly depressing. Trust me, I feel it in the mobile space already, if home went this way I would die.

I don't know why you need them to. You already have a choice between WIndows, Linux and Mac OS's for laptops and desktop computers, Apple Tablets as well as Android and of course MS ones as well.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Consoles will always have there place, stop lying Microsoft.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

He's probably not far off from the truth.

I've said it many times ... your kids will laugh at you when you tell them you needed a shoebox size "video game console" that played games on plate sized shiny discs that needed to be purchased one at a time.

There will be a Playstation 5, but I have big doubts about a Playstation 6.

Thats what MS wish but I think ppl forgot to inform Sony and Nintendo of that...
