I don't buy manga often anyways, but I would buy them new, since it would be more of a collector thing and you can't clean the pages if they are dirty :/

I get that.

Here in Japan dirt isn't much of a problem. Discoloration because of sunlight and yellowing of the paper are the bigger problems.

I have no problem with the author asking that. People who can afford it should support their hobby. That's common sense. At the same time, though, other outlets should exist for people who want to be part of a particular hobby but can't afford it at the time.

I remember when fansubs kept anime alive and growing in popularity in the United States even though the industry itself was trying to kill it with ludicrous prices for VHS tapes.

I knew what this would be about. If you want to create manga, you just have to deal with the situation. Consumers have and should have every right to buy their manga used.

Me? I don't even read manga but this is obviously an important issue even for other products, such as games.

This is coming from the author of Gantz ...

Of course people will buy it used if they can since there's hardly any redeeming qualities to support new copies of the said product or that there's not enough incentives to buy them new ...

The entertainment industry is pretty fucked when it comes to used sales since the products usually all share the same content and people usually only care about the content itself ...

The same could not be said of other industries which have goods that either depreciate in value with respect to usage or appreciate in value with respect to time ...
