Thats the problem right there. The issue with all the games you mentioned is thst they are all complete lacking in originality. And that to me is why they don't "deserve" feats like this.

No Mans Sky sold purely based on the originality of its concept. Just think of it, so many people (myself included) bought this game having no idea what it really was.

I hope this spurs the industry into seeing that games like these are worth the investment.

I doubt that was called for.

Witcher "3", Dark souls "3" and bloodborne (which in truth is a dark souls reimagination) are nowheee near as original in overall concept to No Mans Sky.

I have two of those three games mind you, doesn't mean I can't still at least admit that No Mans Sky as at the very least more original than them. I didn't say better, I said original.

And originality is good for the industry, unless ur ok with playing COD 20 every year.

Sean Murry is making a lot of cash in the process.

Given the reviews, I personally dont feel like it should have sold this well.It basically sold like an Ubisoft game:mostly on hype. But I hope Hello can enhance the game and turn it into what it was supposed to be.

As far as the PS4 version, goes it seems the majority of purchasers have been enjoying it. I'm personally addicted to it.

Also the most successful steam launch of 2016.  Thats pretty impressive.

Great achievement but I think a game like Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 or The Witcher 3 would have deserved this much more.

Came here to say this. I mean two of the above games are twins of each other and the third is No.3 in a series of open world RPG, all slightly different takes on medevil fantasy (well BB is Victorian but still)....

Especially as an RPG fan, I want more developers to be taking risks. The genre needs diversification, fantasy needs to become new again and not just chainmail, dragons and gore.

Not taking anything away from those games, but they don't represent the same conceptual ambition as NMS.

Reviewers that didn't enjoy the game didn't all of the sudden make me not enjoy it.  Also, reviewers that did enjoy the game didn't make me also enjoy because they did.

I'm enjoying it because it's what I'd thought it'd be.

edit: I didn't buy the game because it was hyped.  In fact when it was hyped up I actually wasn't interested.  I only gained interest as it went on and I noticed a pretty big shift in what was being said about the game on the internet.

It went from hyped up to tempering expectations to downright questioning if it was good at all which actually made the launch reviews and internet chatter pretty predictable.   I'm not sure what the devs did or what decisions they took that altered the internet excitement so quickly but it was very noticeable.

And to think someone called me stupid for saying this lol.

Im not saying that there isnt someone who liked the game(and that someone like you couldnt enjoy it or like the game for what it is), I just think that alot of its games sales were sold on promises that werent met. Now, can it become a better game in the future?Sure. But as things stand now, I believe other games deserved more.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

No man sky isn't that original it is basically a space game with original use of algorithms, Daggerfall (elder scrolls) did basically the same thing and people fell in the same trap. An RPG with the same size of UK? holy shit will play that forever! Most ended just bored after 20 hours of playing. I was hyped when they announced no man sky but that algorithm part made me nervous.

I recommend getting elite dangerous on PS4 when it releases it is a imo a better space game that is now xbox preview and is received well.

As a gamer I wished no man sky was released as a preview/early access game for 20-25 Euro but from a business standpoint they make more money to hype it up and release it for 60 euro pity.

Didnt Sony announce an early access program for the PS4 some time ago?
