Congrats!
But maybe with your surplus income you could do something better with it? Like save up for a new car, invest it, or go on a trip to a new country.

All of those sound like a waste to me.

I will however definitely save up some of it to make a long trip to Japan some day.

But everyone loves driving a nice new car. :O

And travelling around the world is awesome. You get to experience new food, new cultures, see new things...

Nah, I don't give a shit about cars, I don't even have a driver's license. In fact, one of my goals is to make enough money that I will never have to drive and let other people drive for me.

I also don't give a shit about other cultures except for Japan. For me, trips that aren't to Japan are a waste of money and time.

I love my car and the mobility it offers, but it is crazy how much money most of my friends, colleagues and family members are wasting for cars over the years.

Bought my last car when it was 4 years old for 12.000 DM (€6.000) and drove it for 15 years, then sold it for €200. No major repairs all these years, so it come down to €400 annual value loss. My current car around the same and I intend to drive it at least 10 years until the next upgrade.

Many friends buy their cars new and have a value loss of over 10k already in the first year, they also switch cars more often.

Congrats on the new job.

Any car that costs more than 70€ a month is a waste of money, which I believe is all of them. Add to that the lost time while driving the car, it's actually ridiculous that some people claim that a car is value. It might be for some people in remote areas that have too much money anyway but it's a joke where I live. If I want to have fun driving I grab my bike.

But driving is fun. I used to think the same way as you before I got my license. Now it's difficult to go back to using public transport when using a car is so much easier. But I guess if you don't need a car where you live, there's no point in getting one.

Visiting countries is great. You get so many amazing memories, and then it's great to tell your friends and family about them later.

Congrats :D Even if it is not the dream path you will still have plenty of time for that I know the feeling, it can be reassuring to have something stable to lean back on and have the resources for later on to try something new

This story should be used for a Hollywood movie. lol

But what about laughing on society!?

I can still do that while going by train to a less terror attractive work place. Also I'll spend less time outside thanks to the shorter way :)

How far is your flat from the next bus or train station and how frequent are the buses/trains starting in the desired direction? If I were living in Berlin or Munich, I wouldn't need a car either.

But in most small to medium towns the buses drive only every 1 or 2 hours (and they aren't driving in the evening or night at all) and they don't drive directly to your destination, so you waste a lot more time using public transport and are less flexible. You can also transport much more when you go shopping, so it is much more convenient.

Yeah, especially in the summer with open hood. ;)
