and suddenly, we could hear the cries of half a dozen people across the world

At least you can still create. Right? RIGHT??

It was just never clear what MS wanted to do with this, the reveal showed the game being controlled with Kinect https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m37sVEgJrOA

and then they ditched it, brought Conker in a terrible way angering just about everybody.

The art style was all over the place, it just didn't have a great art direction like LBP, something u can pinpoint to and say "yeah thats that game", Project Spark felt like a reactionary move to the play.create.share genre boom. Just like many of MS' endeavors unfortunately. It wasn't a passion project. Ori and Cuphead, those are passion projects.

RIP conker :'(

Huge potential wasted by Microsoft...

I think the sea of middle fingers in response to the "if we want a new game, we're going to have to build it ourselves" from Conker was this game dead before it ever got off the ground, and the promise of millions of stages of content with a giant * behind it of (as long as you guys buy this tool and make all those stages).

This project was handled poorly and came out at a bad time, maybe now that the X1 is starting to get some bit of traction it could have found an audience but still doubtful.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

That's because Ori and Cuphead were projects acquired by MS in their early stages. They already had a vision before getting MS backing. Project Spark never felt like that. Plus people didn't seem take to the game creation tools as naturally as they should have.  It was a curve that kept people from going all in on it. MS's interest in it likely waned once they bought Mojang.

I know that, it was likely developed because some suits saw the success of minecraft and the genre and decided that Xbox should have its own take on it.

Both LBP and Minecraft were small little indie projects that grew, these type of games are the best when they start at grass roots, not when it's dictated as a reactionary move.

MS really struggling to make any new IP stick for years now. Add this one to the list of failed attempts.
