Forums - Movies & TV - New Star Wars Rogue One trailer!

Maybe it's just me but I find the pedestal that people hold the OT on to be a bit ridiculous. I'm sure IV was great in it's day and all, but watching it now.....it's pretty boring really. The mystique of Vader, and the charisma of Han Solo are really the only things it's got going for itself. V is truly great, no argument there, that one is just all around beautifully executed. VI is good for about 30-40 minutes or so, and then becomes utterly shit outside of the Luke Vader showdown.

This whole Star Wars will never match it's former glory stance is a load of nostalgia goggle nonsense at this point. Has it matched the high of V yet? No. But it could. I'd say they're getting pretty close to putting all the right pieces together. If they can sort out Kylo Ren, and/or introduce a more menacing threat, they'll have all the ingredients to knock it out of the park.

Maybe because she's the most visible character worthy of the term in the past few years. Very appropriate though - that cannot be denied.

Or it is because the term is highly imprecise, vague, debated, poorly defined (see here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MarySue ), and usually only flung as criticism of an unliked important character.

And going by the loosely held set of ideas that passes for the definition of the term, Luke falls just as close to the term as Rey.  I do feel her defeating the villain head on is too fast, but I think that's a failing in writing the villain, not because she is a Mary Sue.

No, it's because it's accurate. And Luke doesn't perform the same feats as her. It's been discussed multiples anyway - there's no way around the fact that she's a Mary Sue/flawless/everyone's world revolves around her, etc. and therefore a terrible character.

I'm still pretty sure Episode VIII will explain why Rey is so powerful, it's not something that was unintentionally placed into the script.

The theory is that she's the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker and will succeed where he failed - bring balance to the force.

I like the sense of scale many of these shots give us about the various ships. Really feel the presence of the Empire at its prime ruling the galaxy.

Also, this is how I like trailers. Sell me the mood, show some characters, buts don't give a beat by beat summation of the plot.

It looks awesome. I loved Force Awakens and the rebirth of Star Wars, I get why people don't like it, they played it safe and of course it's not going to stack up against 5 and 6. But it was what it needed to be and that's fine with me, specially if it means they can start taking risks/branching out the franchise in interesting ways like this movie.

Their palying it safe was playing it dumb.

1. Copy/Paste story from episode 4

2. Make episode 6 basically pointless.

3. Rey as said Mary Sue

I mean of all the things they coudl do, they make ANOTHER death star. And then it seems like why was everyone celebrating in episode 6 when empire defeated. It seems they have not been. This movie starts and they seem stronger than the entire Rebellion (or whatever theya re called now) Then the new death star destroys like all of the resistance again making htem even weaker than they apparantly already were.

I could make a huge post about the many flaws and bad parts. Heck at our New Years Eve party last year it was a group of us firends talking about the movie. We woudl constantly be like "oh man rememeber that shitty part, adn then be like but whatever the movie was awesome." We did that like a billion times.

That was when the movie was fresh still. The further away from the movie time gets, the more "but it was awesome" gets less and the shit moments become even more glaring.

They won't fool me a 2nd time.

After the Dark Knight Rises i dont let myself get hyped for movies anymore.

After Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel, Force Awakens and Civil War, I lost all faith in Reviewers.

I think he may be a blind character, notice the lack of pupils as well.

I love Donnie Yen. Obviously awesome martial art actor, but a great actor on top of that.

He's perfect in IP Man
