Doesnt NPD usually release a list of the top 10 games? Why havent they this month?

NPD changed their PR strategy.

Before, on the 2nd Thursday of every month (aka. July 11th), they would release a combined Top 10 Retail game unit sales without bundles list.

Now, on the 3rd Thursday of every month (aka. July 18th), they release a combined Top 10 Retail + Digital game REVENUES without bundles list.

Public NPD PR is now completely useless because only Activision Blizzard, Capcom, Deep Silver, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment give their digital data to NPD.

So, Bethesda, Sega, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and every other publisher are not properly represented in the Top 10, so the combined NPD PR they do release dramatically favors the publishers who give data (therefore titles like Uncharted 4 and Kirby are now grossly misrepresented).

In addition, the Top 10 ranking is now sorted by Revenue instead of Units, so new titles are skewed higher in the Top 10 then they would be if you look at Unit Sales.

Nothing about NPD has changed. Old clients get the exact same data. But now, NPD only comments on their bizarre physical + digital charts which nobody has access to outside of the eight participating publishers. So I don't get any physical + digital data because I'm high-level at JPMorgan Chase.

thanks for the info

It's both....so I'll give sales for it every month if NPD still allows me to share data.

So my thoughts based on speculation.

3DS gets the hardware #1. Ryng_Tolu suggested it had a price cut, but monster hunter might have had a little effect but pokemon go definitely worked some magic. Good month for it.

XB1 comes second. Normally this would be good but they had firesales to clear stock. At those ridiculously low prices not only would I have expected them to beat ps4 by a huge margin but also the 3DS.

Ps4 at #3. Hopefully it's not far off the 2015 number. Then I'd call it ok performance. If it's up YOY then good. Considering it was selling for $350 and the competition went to ridiculously low prices I'm pleased with it's performance.

PS4 sold 218k last year, no way it's up YOY.

I go to bed, good night to all!

Gonna say the same thing I posted in the No man's sky thread. This site it too funny when exclusives come out and npd numbers are released. Feelings are hurt and agendas are pushed. Lol never change VGChartz

Wow...I normally don't have much to say here, but I wasn't expecting this. I am shock.

Is this related to Pokemon Go's release, or did the 3DS see a price cut this month? I haven't seen much in the way of promotion for Monster Hunter, but maybe I just haven't been watching enough TV.
