With 3DS on top, that got me curious: Is the 2DS counted as a 3DS sale?Or it is not counted at all?

3DS and 2DS are the same console, sales of 2DS count as 3DS.

In the last two months, 3DS did better than expect thanks a 2DS pricedrop.

There was a lot of things being said 2 or 3 years ago.

The reciprocal of that was people saing PS4 would do 2 to 1 in the USA alone. Or PS4 repeating Wii numbers for all the generation.

Facts are MS is willing to sell the XO far cheaper than before and cram free games while Sony is more conservative and still enjoying a good profit.

Why would PS4 want to do Wii numbers all gen? That means they'd crawl to 100M, instead of easily passing it like the PS2, which it's currently otpacing.

And let's just ignore all the Xbox fans' predictions and threads about how the XBO was going to actually compete with the PS4 WW, possibly beat it. Which started up again when XBO did well the following Xmas after launch. Now, it's only competing in the US when it's $70-$100 cheaper than the PS4.

There were a lot of preditions. Even I couldn't belive some crazy ones like the WiiU failing to break the 20mi mark.

There were people claiming the PS4 would do Wii numbers (30mi per year) without winding down, going up to 250mi total or more.

You can not just dismiss the Xbox performance for it being cheaper. One of the major reasons for the PS4's advantage was precisely costing $ 100 less. I hope you will not disregard Microsoft's engineering effort with the "Xbox One S", when finally  equaled to the PS4 in size (or at least come close), if it start beating the PS4 in the USA, at the same price level.

On the off-topic of PS2 numbers and claims.

You can not exactly align the two  launche windows. The PS2 had a slow start, but by 2002-2003 it was doing 20 million per year and kept its pace for 3 more years. And survived long into the PS3 era.
We all know that this is impossible now and even Sony want faster generation refresh.

Yes, I know about the 2DS sales bump, but I dont why I had this idea on my head that it wasnt counted as one, so I had to ask.Especially since 3DS is number one this month.

Thanks Ryng!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

And not invest millions upon millions into R&D for hardware and just make huges piles of money on software with it being available on 60 million more machines on console alone? (Not even factoring steam)

Hell fucking yes.

Xbox One outsold PlayStation 4 in July in the U.S.

Microsoft has a new version of its Xbox One out this month, but the old model had a strong performance in July.

Xbox One was the top-selling console in the United States last month, according to data-tracking firm The NPD Group. Microsoft launched the revamped Xbox One S on August 4, which is a slimmer, higher-quality version of the same system. But while we won’t see any sales for that system until NPD’s next report, Microsoft clearly benefited from slashing prices on the 2013 launch version of Xbox One. July is among the slowest months for hardware and software sales, so these results will likely not make a dent in the lead Sony’s PlayStation 4 has built over Microsoft’s system in the $99.6 billion gaming industry.

“We’re honored that Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in July, and that total gaming hours on Xbox consoles globally were up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours,” Xbox marketing boss Mike Nichols said in a statement provided to GamesBeat.

A new Xbox One (non-S) sells for around $250 at some retailers right now, and certain deals pushed that price even lower. That compares with the Xbox One S, which starts at $300.

Microsoft credited the bump in sales to excitement over its showing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show in Los Angeles in June. But it also acknowledged that the Xbox One S also has many fans talking.

“Following its release last week, the 2TB launch edition of Xbox One S sold out in the U.K. and is nearly sold out in the U.S.,” said Nichols. “Later this month on August 23, we will launch 500GB and 1TB options for Xbox One S at $299 and $349, respectively. We’re excited about all the fun gamers are having on Xbox One and all the new releases we’ll be bringing them this holiday.”

August, another slow month, will hold some intrigue for this ongoing battle, which Sony typically dominates. The Xbox One S should juice Microsoft’s sales even further while Sony may benefit from the launch of the highly anticipated space-exploration sim No Man’s Sky. Check back in with us next month for that.

7-10k gap confirmed?

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=213306723&postcount=330

I predicted a 5k gap with Xbox winning so pretty close if true. If the gap is that small then this is a hollow victory for MS considering what they had to do.

I wonder why the talk of small gaps are only broght up on slow summer months when Xone has the lead. It's not like, according to leaks, the PS4 has consistently winning every month in a landslide.

And it's not like PS4 had zero fire sales and bundles.
