Forums - Sales Discussion - Gran Turismo 6 sold 5 million and and GT5 sold 12 million!

Remember the days when they said Halo 5 bombed and it sold the same amount in alot less time.

People just love to claim failures when they have no idea how much companies rake in with these games.

I think you might have your data a bit mixed up, Halo 5 is far below the last few Halo titles.

Pretty big drop, im hoping its just that PS4 launch overshadowed GT6 and that Sport & the inevitable GT7 can bring it back up to GT1-5 levels.

GT6 released after the ps4 launched. These numbers are pretty incredible.

GT sport is a glorified prologue imo and it will sell 5-8m.  GT7 should get those 10m+ sales.

Sony should have made a ps4 port along with ps3.  It would have helped the game as lot.

What's equally interesting is that the PSP game got almost as many sales as GT6.

Haha xD

Did halo 5 release on 360 a month after the X1 and ps4 released?

Yep, like i said, i hope its just that PS4 launch overshadowed it but i am worried since the racing genre seems to be declining quite a bit as a whole.

Forza, Need for Speed, Dirt, F1 have all seen pretty large drops compared to previous installments. PS3+360 sold about 140 million units of racing software while PS4+XBO is currently around 20 million.

To me it seems like the racing genre isnt doing so hot on the new consoles.

but i must say that Need for Speed and especially F1 2015 were not really good. I loved F1 2011/2012 on my PS3, then i wanted to wait for a PS4 Version and hey last year we got the first one and it was so freakin bad compared to previous F1-Games, they pretty much removed everything from the game and i still dont get why they freakin did that!? The Gameplay was great and fun especially since i bought the G29 Wheel, i aso still did Platinum for the Game^^The same goes for Need for Speed and it wasnt that bad, its also not a "Real" Racinggame for me, but it was still fun to play it for almost a Day Playtime and i also did Platinum there.

Drivelcub also was a disaster at the beginning, its a good game now and i will still try to get as many trophies as possible there since you can get like over 20 Gold Trophies with Season pass :D  Until GT Sport which i really hope delivers, i will play Games like Drivelcub/Project Cars.

But yeah as a big racing fan this Gen isnt really good so far, but i think with F1 2016 and especially GT Sport/Asseto Corsa i will get some really good Racing Games that will keep me playing for a long time !! :)

CoD Ghosts, Fifa, and GTAV flew past GT6 launching near 8th gen consoles.

So I think the massive decline of GT6 was both people moving to new consoles AND declined interest. GT6 is basically just an updated GT5.

While true, there are some key differences as compared to GT6.

1. Those games launched before next gen.

2. Those games were multiplat.

3. Cod Ghosts was cross gen buy, and I am fairly sure Fifa was as well. GTA V has the special case of being GTA V, ie exceeding all expectations and still a top selling game in 2016.

GT6 should have been multiplat with PS4 and cross gen buy for more incentive to buy imo.

I think the reason is that 6 was just a repacked 5, from what I remember reading.

Except it had more new content than all of Forza 5 (tracks and cars) and all the old content of GT5 with a new improved career mode.
What hampered is that people expected it to come to ps4 which it never did, besides bad time to release a game with little marketing.

Quality could certainly be a factor in the drop in sales and hopefully some upcoming high quality racers can give the genre the boost it needs.

I dont want to get too far off topic but it seems to be a trend with most genres. Basically everything other than the shooter, sports & action genres seem to be in decline, which is really sad to see.

Pretty bad sales. GT Sports will probqbly do a bit over the other non mainline games so 2-3ml and GT7 will be interesting to see if it does GT6 numbers or GT5
