Forums - Sony Discussion - Rumor: There are 2 PS4 Neo SKU's, only one will make it.

¿Which PS4 would you prefer?

Jaguar PS4 Neo (4.2TF) at $399 26 10.97%

PS4 Neo with new CPU (5.5TF) at $499 125 52.74%

Keep my regular PS4 (1.8TF) 17 7.17%

Get a regular PS4 (1.8TF) 2 0.84%

Scorpio (6TF) FTW! 30 12.66%

I'd rather NX. 27 11.39%

These console peasants... 10 4.22%

Total:237

So, according to NeoGAF insider OsirisBlack, Sony is testing and internally debating 2 PS4 Neo SKU's from the beginning, one of them would use the Jaguar PS4 CPU with a higher clock speed and other tweaks at $399, this model would offer 4.2 TF performance, the other would use a new and better CPU at $499, reaching 5.5 teraflops of performance.

Also, the Neo form factor would require the use of an external power supply to prevent overheating.

lets wait until september 7th to take conclusions.

Seems possible.

Wait, its rumored to have a power brick! Oh no... They should go with the 399 model. $500 for any mid gen upgrade is too much I feel. The 399 model already boasts greater TFs than the One S doesn't it? That alone should be enough to hold Sony over, unless that is, Neo is meant to be more than just a short term hardware revision. Be smart Sony, you already have a lead, keep it.

Keep the $399 option and the power supply internal.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

i hope 500e mainly because yeah new CPU, that is the big reason Open World games sometime stuggle.

The XBox One S doesn't even reach the original PS4 specs.

Ouch. So they didn't increase the GPU, just minor increases to the CPU? What's the draw of the One S then... besides underused HDR...

The bump between the original XBox One and the S model is about 7%. And that boost only affects a certain number of games. The difference between the original XBox One and PS4 is more than 7% (35-40%-ish), so yeah. The S model should basically replace the original model entirely, down the line. Just like the remodels did during the 7th gen.

No, GPU is increased, CPU is the same. XB1 S is 1400 gflop, XB1 is 1300 gflops. The draw is that it's smaller, has HDR and a 4K blu-ray player, uses less power, comes with a slightly improved controller, and doesn't have a power brick.

Yeah, the power brick is gone, forgot about that. I thought something sounded weird. No way they released it without a moderately enhanced GPU to support HDR. I mean, the improvements are minor but not enough for me to get one, I just bought a One a week ago, shoulda waited I guess it is a cheap 4K blu ray player as well.
