Ever since the original leaks for the PS4: Neo were released I have been impatiently waiting to hear more about it. I was, at the time, planning on buying a PS4 on the release day for Uncharted 4.  The news of a newer high-spec machine coming out that would allow games that previously ran at 30fps to run at 60fps made me hold on my purchase and wait.

Rumors said it would be revealed at E3 but as we all know, Sony decided not to reveal the Neo at that time and even made a statement that they were doing so to focus entirely on games. After that, there has been nothing but silence from Sony with regards to the NEO. There was been a "leak" for an internal presentation that offered no new or relative information on the Neo. Twice now I have almost given up on waiting for new information and almost bit the bullet by buying the Uncharted 4 Special Edition PS4 bundle. But now there is newsrumors that there will be a reveal for the Neo on Sept 7th.

Here is a quote from IGN on their article about the possible reveal and the link to the article

"Multiple reports have emerged indicating that Sony will reveal its PS4 Neo console at a "technical showcase" in New York on September 7.

The much-discussed mid-generation upgrade was confirmed before E3, but Sony decided to hold off on an official unveiling.

Now, both Gameblog and Vice Gaming have reported that anonymous sources inform them that the showcase will act as an official reveal - although Vice explains that as recently as a few weeks ago, Sony was still deciding what exactly will be shown."

Here is a uqote from Vice Gaming indicating that they have heard from multiple soruces that this is going to happen.

"Sony will reveal the first details on an upgraded PlayStation 4 at a September 7 event in New York, French gaming website Gameblog reported today. VICE Gaming can confirm that it's heard the same information from multiple sources familiar with the planned rollout for the new machine. These sources chose to remain anonymous because they are not authorized to speak publicly about Sony's plans."

So, what do you think? Will the Neo be revealed on Sept 7th, or is this just another carrot for us to chase?

New York... NEW York... Neo York... Hazahh!

I tried
But yea, its interesting how this mid generation almost feels like a new generation. MS and Sony fighting over new hardware while Nintendo releasing their own hardware with a spin. I will be curious to see how powerful the Neo is... This is gonna be good.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

All i really seem to see fit to say is, if the reason you are holding off is because you get to play 30fps games at 60fps..... well, you are going to be disappointed.

As for the rumor, that date is just a month away.

I believe so.

I also expect the 4.2 teraflops or so rumor to be true.
Its too late for sony to "up" performance of it too much, but they might just give it a tiny overclock before it ships and thats it.

Still, thats alot... PS4 at 1.84 Teraflops is already plenty fast I feel.

Being able to get 1800p games upscaled to 4k, or like 1200p games at 60fps.... ought to be more than enough.
Maybe Scorpio ends up being faster, but it ll be a year late, and come at a higher price point.
I think Sony did the right thing with not going overboard with specs, if it means they can keep prices down.

I understand that this is depends upon whether or not the game's developers decide to submit a patch to enable the Neo features but I hope that many will do this. Is there another reason you don't think this will happen?

Edit: I am primarily a PC gamer so the difference from 30FPS to 60FPS is a huge deal to me.

Cant wait. Nintendo and sony are both rumored to show new hardware next month.

Hopefully it'll be worth the upgrade. I'm guessing it will seeing that Sony has a habit of stealing Microsoft's thunder. Let's see how it goes.

Just want to know details and pricing so can decide what I think of it finally.

I dont get this up performance rumor thing. The very same place we got the intital leak saying 4.5TF also said that sony eere wotking on differrmt possible versions of the Neo.

this nee september annouvr thing also says that sony will then relesse the final dev sku to developers. I dont get ehy its so beyond reason to think that Sony couldn't make a more powerful system or that they even always planned to.

Especially when u consider that even the XB1 spec changed from when it was officially announced to when it was released. They can always do more, but they can't take away what they have given.

I personally believe Sony can make a 5TF console and come in at $399. I don't see it being impossible.

Yes there is another reason. It's kinda impossible. If the PS4 neo is using the same CPU with the base PS4, even if over clocked from 1.65GHz to 2.2GHz, it won't be able to take a game that was at best running at 30-40fps internally on the PS4 base up to 60fps on the Neo.

That will only be possible if the game was running at 45-60fps internally on the base PS4 and locked to 30fps for stability. then in that case the slightly more powerful CPU could carry it up to 60fps.

If at 1.65ghz a game is already struggling to hit 30fps on the cpu side you basically need twice the clock is using the exact same cpu architecture or a more powerful CPU architecture entirely if you want to double the fps.

This assumes that the game is CPU limited and not GPU limited. You can take a 5 year old CPU and GPU then upgrade  only the GPU to the most modern verison and get more than double the performance in game. So yes, if the game is CPUlimited  then it may not be possible for it double the FPS, however, from all my years of experience with PC's though this is rarely the case. Most games do not depend on the CPU much and rarely utilize more than 50% of the CPU. When you have a huge came with a lot of AI, massive maps and 64 players like MAG  ( PS3) or any of the Battlefield games, they do become partially CPU limited but still see a massive increase in performance by only upgrading the GPU.

For examply, my current system has a now 5 year old CPU. When I had my GTX 870 I averaged between 45-70FPS on Battlefield 4. When I upgraded to a GTX980 I now get between 70-120 FPS and I never drop below 60. I did not change my CPU, RAM, or Motherboad, just the GPU.

It is very possible to acheive a massive FPS increase with a slight CPU overlcock and a new GPU.
