Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why was/is there a lot of talk of Pokémon Go declining in popularity, truth or haters?

On one hand I can appreciate an educated editorial about an app that has reached its peak , but in my humble opinion some of these posts are people almost wanting Pokémon Go to fail. I play the game and so do most all my children and I was wondering if anybody had some legitimate thoughts on why people have so many polarized opinionson Pokémon?

I have a love hate relationship with pokemon go.

Yes, it's a neat app, but I hate how people went from making pokemon a game for nerdy virgins into a game that's cool. There are times where I just want to give up on it due to the fact that many people are playing it just to be cool.

As for it reaching its peak, I don't think so. I'm predicting it will decline when most of the world goes through winter.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

The game is on decline, it has been since it was out in all regions. It will decline further maybe with little spikes after big updates. Nothing polarizing about this.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

imo its an awesome idea but unfortunaly made by not nearly good enough developer.

The game has to many problems to be fun. The server problems for the first 3!!! weeks as an example.

The combat is lame, the balance sucks (Gyrados charged attack twister does 40% of the DPS its standart attack does).

The biggest problems are gps faker and botter. Why should i invest time and energy to catch good pokemon if others just let their bot catch them all and kill you in the gym everytime?
Niantics ban politics regrads cheaters are ridiculous. Ban for some hours? Thats not really a hard pain.

Isn't it like that for most games?
After the first month, the amount of players declines?

Basically this. That and media has to go look for another fresh fad. I'm so tired of seeing Pokemon Go on the news and newspapers. Why is someone catching all the pokemons noteworthy enough to get an article?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Its mobile... Its the same for every game on there... The question is, how much of the userbase can it retain

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Still seeing hundreds and hundreds of people playing at every large park/tourist attraction I go to.

The crazy thing is the demographics, there are as many women playing as men if not more and I see plenty of even older women (30s-50s) playing. It's crazy.

It had a huge launch, and I kind of doubt it can get much bigger. Thus, decline is a logical conclusion to draw from that. And of course decline doesn't mean it's going to disappear: For a product of Pokémon GO's size, it'll still have a huge amount of users even if it declines a lot.

Talking about decline, I'd like to see what winter does to the numbers, and whether it recovers when spring comes. Mobile gaming doesn't sound very convenient when it's very cold outside.

It's the standard mobile stuff. Casuals come and go with the winds. What matters for these games is how many cash whales they can get, but the same truth holds for every F2P app or online game. Hardcores can't play everything at once. So, naturally there is only so many titles that can be sucessful in the long term.

This is the reason why the mobile and online space is full of failures. Will pokemon go be one of them? No idea.
