Forums - Politics Discussion - In just over seven months, humanity has used up a full year's allotment of natural resources such as water, food and clean air – the quickest rate yet. The point of "overshoot"

Wonder what Slade is doing right now......

I guess that's the price we have to pay for looking at everything with only money in mind

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

We reached overshoot day already? That's nearly a week earlier from last year!

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I think advancing desalinatization tech and the ability to create modified/lab created food sources will shore us up on food/water but air quality is going to be a big problem.

That is so fucking depressing.

Aren't water, food and clean air all renewable resources?

Don't know how water works, but there must be some way it gets renewed, I dunno maybe when urine evaporates it takes all the pissy bits out and turns it back into water to rain down again or something? Food is easy. More animals are born and more plants grow. Clean air is even easier, just needs more plants to consume the carbon dioxide in the air and release oxygen, the opposite to what we do, and since more plants is part of the food one anyway...

They are. The problem is, though, that we are using renewable resources quicker than the Earth can replenish them. The overshoot day is when we've used more resources than the Earth will have replenished by the end of the year.

Toxins bioaccumulate up the food chain. Time to eat only plants and insects (and organic ones at that). The food chain is now working against us, not for us. And unless you're vegan who only eats organic, this does matter for you, and is affecting your quality of life.

The selfish older generations destroyed the economy by putting most nations in huge debt at the same time as destroying the environment.

Nah. No worries. 15-20 years and the technological singularity will happen. Maybe even earlier. Most if not all our problems will be solved.

If this fails, there is Plan B:
