I'm going to say bloom.
The most annoying is...
Chromatic Aberration | 32 | 15.69%
Depth of Field | 15 | 7.35% | |
Motion Blur | 57 | 27.94% | |
Bloom | 41 | 20.10% | |
Lens Flare/Dirt | 23 | 11.27%
Film Grain | 19 | 9.31% | |
Other | 17 | 8.33% | |
Total: | 204 |
Depends on the game, but Motion blur in Halo Reach was awful. Some really nice TV's can get rid of it completely.

That's called letterboxing. It's good because it shows more of the game by increasing the field of view. It's not just cutting off the top and bottom haha.
Plus games don't have to render those extra pixels so it helps with graphics too. |
I get that but with the PC version, there was a mod to remove it and it was even better cause PC users saw even more detail than they would normally have. On Consoles sure if they really need to render those extra pixels but on PC... They should give an option to remove that nonsense. The worst part is that if you have an Ultrawide monitor that works with that FOV, the black bars don't go away and you just get more black bars on the side from what I have heard which makes it even worse.
PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850
I've always particularly disliked graining effects personally. Of course any of those effects you mentioned can be absolutely awful if done poorly, but graining I just dislike period

Yeah it sucks for people with ultra wide monitors. Probably best to just remove it in general for PC since those players are picky and can customize the experience.
I'd personally always play with it though :)
The only one I experienced is Motion Blur which I think looks cool. But Chromatic Aberration looks like crap.

There was a patch to remove them on PC and consoles.

I was talking in general with any game that might use that effect, not specifically to The Evil Within... Granted the wording could have been better

Film grain is the worst IMO. Doesn't add anything, just makes the image look unclean.
Thank god it was possible to turn off in Mass Effect
