Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo what do you want? Outdated hardware? or 3rd Party games? CANT have both!

We all know Nintendo desperatly wants 3rd party support back on their system... But they keep making outdated hardware for their consoles/hardware.  So what's the logic in that?? Nintendo YES you can have 3rd party support on outdated hardware BUT THE GAMES ARE GOING TO BE WATERED OUT AND RUN POORLY BECAUSE OF YOUR POORLY DECISION TO MAKE A POORLY POWERED CONSOLE. Back in 2012 I bought EVERY 3rd party game on the Wii U. Assassin's Creed 3, Black Ops 2 ect ect. and I had the blast with the Wii U! I was updated with all the 3rd party games and I barely played my PS3 because of this. But since the more powerful truly next gen consoles came out, the Wii U suffered because it wasn't powerful enough. And i bought a proper next gen system.

I'm not saying graphics are everything but I'm saying updated hardware is NEEDED to gain full 3rd party games. What was Nintendo thinking? Just because Mario is 720p(which is outdated resolution) means its going to be successful?... Just because the Wii had success and the Wii U was gonna follow?

I'm not a graphics person at al,l I'm all about content. But I CAN'T get 3rd party content BECAUSE of Nintendo's decision on making a outdated console.

YOU CANT HAVE BOTH NINTENDO! EITHER MAKE AN UPDATED HARDWARE CONSOLE AND HAVE 3RD PARTY SUPPORT OR MAKE ANOTHER OUTDATED HARDWARE CONSOLE AND NOT HAVE 3RD PARTY SUPPORT. CHOOSE!

I mostly agree. I'm not a Nintendo diehard like some here, so I can look at this from an unbiased perspective. The Wii U is struggling to catch up with the PSVita. That is bad. The Wii U is a failure because they chose weak hardware. Most gamers want top of the line.

If NX is weaker than XB1, then it will be ignored by gamers again, unless they manage to get casuals back, which I doubt. The original Wii was in the right place at the right time. It was by chance that Wii was a success. Casuals don't need NX. They have smartphones that keep getting better.

NX needs to be more powerful than PS4. At least as strong as PSNeo and Scorpio. If the reports hold true about NX, I feel that Nintendo will go the way of Sega.

Why do i need two consoles that play the same games?

It won't get versions of high selling third party home console games because of any or all of the following;

1. Wrong architecture making conversions more difficult and costly
2. Low performance level
3. Poor controller
4. limited storage either on cartridge or in tablet
5. wrong userbase
6. Small userbase
7. Poor online infrastructure
8. Publishers desire for the NX to fail
9. Developers wanting to program high performance hardware not lower performance hardware
10. Retailer apathy

Even if the product has haptic feedback and the controllers have built in colour displays that makes the tablet very futuristic and attractive there is still the huge issue that its hardware performance level is not competitive and once you've got over the novelty value you are left with a limited product and a small number of games. I can imagine the controllers being absolutely terrible due to shape and limited analogue controllers etc.

Again I realise this is all speculation but the current signals about NX are terrible and really represent a withdrawal of Nintendo from the home console arena.

I think it's more important that Nintendo distinguishes the NX's library from the other platforms available. Most third party stuff doesn't interest me anyways: not cartoony enough.

I dont think they care at this point. Also if you want 3rd party games you can get them. Its called PS4, Xbox and/or PC

PS2 says hi and laughs at your assertion that you need competitive hardware to attract 3rd party developers.

It's about install base above all else. Nintendo is banking on the NX being able to attract more customers who are willing to buy 3rd party titles. That, in and of itself, will be the sole determination of whether the NX gets multiplats or not.

That's why 3DS had no third parties.
Oh wait.

They dont want big mature third party support. The third party support will most likely stay the same as it is on wii u.

They tried to get big aaa mature third party content on the wii u (assassins creed, mass effect, deus ex, call of duty, zombiu, splinter cell, Tekken, Watch Dogs, Darksiders 2, Need for Speed, Fifa, Madden, NBA, Batman and co).

Remeber their e3 wii u presentation 2012, they were only talking about their awesome third party relationships.

It failed horrible. The wii u flopped and the third party games sold horrible in comparison to nintendos first party lineup or casual third party lineup (lego games, just dance, skylanders, disney infinity).

The NX wont get those games at all. They wont try again. The understand it.

people that want to play those games already own an ps4/xbox one/pc or will get one of them (because they are good known for third party support). Nobody would buy a Nintendo console for third party games, even if they have a good lineup at launch (see wii u).

The Wii Us "weak" hardware wasnt the reason for bad third party support. Most ps3/x360 third party games (battlefield 4, crysis 3, Battlefield Hardline, COD AW, Assassins Creed Rogue, Metal Gear Solid 5, Dark Souls 2, Destiny, Titanfall, Dying Light, Bioshosk Infinite, GTA 5, Dragon Age 3 and co) skipped the system as well. And the wii u could handle all those games power whise.

Oh wait.

No big AAA titles.

The Wii U has third party games as well (skylanders, Disney Infinity, Just Dance, Legend of Kay, Lego games).

3ds games are cheap to make in comparison to big aaa games. High Budget Games like Assassins Creed, GTA, Witcher, Final Fantasy and co wont be profitable on any nintendo console at the moment.

Which is the reason why the NX will go the handheld/console route.( if the leaks prove to be true)

I mean they even said it themselves:

"So for us, whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that’s for them to fight out in that red ocean”.

“it’s not about specs, it’s not about teraflops, it’s not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it’s about the content”
