Forums - Movies & TV - Suicide Squad: 750 - 800 Million needed to break even?

I loved Man of Steel, but the things I loved about it were how emotionally intimate and claustrophobic it was. I haven't seen either Superman V Batman, or Suicide Squad, because the trailers suggested to me that they're taking the DCEU directly away from the things I liked about Man of Steel.

Got adjusted up its a little over $575 million world wide now. I stick with what I said earlier it will be over $600 million by Sunday and will easily make more then $700 million world wide by the time its done.

Man of Steel gets better every time I watch it. It was a great starting point and BvS went down the dark road, but apparently for a purpose. Moving forward, it sounds like we'll be seeing the Batman and Superman we're all familiar with in the future movies. Piece of advice: don't watch the theaterical cut if you ever get around to it. Watch the Ultimate/extended edition.

And you gotta check out Suicide Squad some time. It's almost its own tone much like how Guardians of the Galaxy is to the MCU, where it could technically be a standalone.

It's already outpaced by GotG on the daily earnings. SS has been aided this whole time by that +$40 million opening weekend. And remember, no China. I think this week it crashes and we see it stumble a little. I'll hold on $650-$675 WW finish, despite it being at $575 already. I'd love to see it top $700 though.

Edit: I forgot it releases in Japan in a few weeks. Japan ranged anywhere from 9-25 million from the last handful of comicbook movies. Katana could be a major selling point though and could boost ticket sales.

It will be in theaters in one place or another for at least another 120 days making another $125 million in that time span shouldn't be too hard.  Domestically it will be in the top 10 for quiet a while there is nothing coming out soon that will make it drop out of the top 10 so its domestic legs should be decent for some time to come.

China wouldn't have added that much ($50 million tops) 700 + is still pretty easily doable.

I'm thinking 650m-675m.

Yeah at this point, it's guaranteed as the point to break even and marginally profit.

At a minimum it will make slighly more then The Secret Life of Pets has made so far so $675 + is the low point.

I was at the movies the other day... and we had to pick between this or Jason Bourne.
We went with Jason Bourne... which was a okay movie but by no means a great one.
(it was better than independence day, we saw that at the movies too and it suuuucked)

Has anyone here been to see Suicide Squad? Is it worth a watch?

I've seen both Jason Bourne and Suicide Squad.
Jason Bourne was just okay to me. And I like those movies but that one underwhelmed me to the point that I think it may be the weakest in the series.

Suicide Squad was funner, I laughed, and there's a decent amount of comicbook action in it. If I had the opportunity for free tickets to either one, I'd choose Suicide Squad.

GotG made another 100 after the third week.

SS needs only to do a little better than half of it to beat 320mi.

The estimated budget is roughly $175-$200 million. Why does it need to gross 4x its budget in order to break even?

Because that number doesn't include its marketing budget which is probably close to $200 million also.

No Hollywood reporter places budget reaching close to 300+( rebates+incentives+marketing cost included). Yours is highly inflated. It has to reach 650M only to break even.
