Forums - Movies & TV - Suicide Squad: 750 - 800 Million needed to break even?

^^ I'm not sure, according to this guy (who is pretty unbiased and on point), the movie will struggle to reach $300 domestic and may be more in line with Man of Steel ($291). This is why China was such a let down, because they could have put the WW figures anywhere between +$50-$100 million from where they are now.

I think WW they're expecting this movie to pass $550 this weekend. So it'll probably finish anywhere in the $600s at this point, which is still ridiculously solid no matter how much people spin it.

$600 is also low for such a big movie. WB are so clueless.

Suicide Squad ain't exactly an A-tier comic book franchise no matter how much (crappy) Joker is shoe horned into it.

It's doing well enough.

I guess at least Warner Bros. can imagine how much BvS and SS would've made with actual good scripts.

If movies need more than $500-$600 million to turn a profit, the entire business model is bullshit anyway, there should be only 4-5 movies a year that make that kind of money.

Those marketing costs and probably the budget too are overstated by shady studio practices IMO.

$572 million world wide now all the new releases this weekend bombed. Its world wide total should be at least in the lower 700s by the time its done. Domestically it will be in the top 10 for a while to come. Also right now its the second highest grossing August release world wide behind Guardians of the Galaxy and at this point its box office is still up $40 million dollars domestically over Guardians of the Galaxy after being released for 17 days.

WB was able to get by on brand recoginition/marketing this time, but if they don't want massive drop offs for the sequels to BvS and SS they're going to need much, much better scripts next time around.

Audiences are not that stupid. Also a good move to release in August when the competetion is much weaker. I mean Ben-Hur? lol, who the fuck thought that was a good idea to remake.

700 + would have been an easy possibility if China had its release.

China wouldn't have added that much ($50 million tops) 700 + is still pretty easily doable.

^^ We simply don't know. BvS did $95 million, Civil War did $190 million I think. It's more fair to say it could have been anywhere between $50-$100 million in China, had they deemed it "appropriate" for their country.

$572 million in its third week is impressive, even if it crawls from here to its end. China is definitely a coulda/shoulda/woulda, so that aside, for such a terribly received movie that was a thorn in everyones eyes, apparently it was liked more than critics wanted it to be.
Again, I thought the movie was fun and I think it deserves a good box office run. I hope they improve a few things and make the story a litte more coherent in the second and third acts of a sequel, and make the villain more... Interesting and respectable.

I don't know I think its pretty easy to assume it would have done only about half as much as BvS since it features characters that are lesser known.   Also the reason it probably didn't make it to China is because they already filled their yearly quota of foreign films that are alowed to play there.
