Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Metroid 30th Anniversary thread !

So now it's officialy August 6th in Japan which means the Metroid franchise is 30 years old.

While certainly not beeing one of the luckiest franchises, Metroid gave a lot to the Gaming Industry, from beeing the founder of a new genre alongside Castelvania to improving the Shooting one to beeing one of the first Videogames to have a female character as its protagonist.

Feel free to share your memories related to the Metroid franchise below !

Hoping for a Club Nintendo Metroid Picross to celebrate the anniversary! XD

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I do not have that many memories with the Metroid franchise (I only have Metroid: Other M and Metroid Prime Trilogy which I got recently), but I do really enjoy what I have played. The first Metroid (which I was only able to play on an emulator) was a bit hard for me, but it seems to be a game that I could get further on if I have I also liked Super Metroid, Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid Fuzion, though for every game I have not gotten very far (I generally only use emulators to test a game to decide whether or not I will buy it). I really hope that the NX will have a Metroid game: if the NX launches with say a new Metroid, Breath of the Wild and a new F-Zero I will definitely get it day 1.

Here's to federation force bombing hard.

Metroid is one of the franchises I want to play the most.

My favorite memory with the Metroid franchise was when I played the first Prime game. I was 10 and I was simply blown away by how well the Metroid formula worked in 3D. Still one of my favorite games of all time.

Greatest action series I ever played and best Nintendo franchise imo. Even Other M was great.

Lube Me Up

I've been playing it since the first one back in the 80's and it's always been my favorite Nintendo franchise. Aside from the stellar gameplay, the reason why it had such an impact on me is the atmospheric music and sound. Take the first game for instance. Even though it's an 8-bit game, as soon as that now-iconic theme kicks in, you truly get a feeling of dread and isolation. You feel like you're on another planet and one that is quite hostile.

People don't really think of music as being as important as it is but a great sound track can be the difference between a good experience and a great one.

I love this franchise so much, not only did it got me into gaming but is has deliverd the most epic, engaging and fun experiences in my life as gamer. It also has the best female character in gaming history and the metroid prime trilogy is the best of all time.
