Wow Belgium won a gold medal (last olympics none).

And south korea is first now: they update them here (faster than the official site) if we talk about gold medals first but china has the most so far in total.

Medal table updated, loads of medals coming in now after just the shooting one at first. Brasil have their first medal in in the Olympics in pistol shooting. And loads of Judo events are done, first day. That's quick really.

Hmm, pie.

Their will be on average 58 medals a day if I calculated it well.

Day in august + total medals of that day.

What an unfortunate fall for Nibali in that cycling race, he decided to not be competitve in the Tour just to train and win this competition and then, when he was in the top 3, he fell, I can't help but wonder who would have come on top if he and the other guy didn't fell...

Also nice to see our swordsman (or better swordswoman) getting better and better, a Silver in a category where we never won is a great accomplishment, now let's just hope the rest of the team can bring home some golds even without Valentina Vezzali. Kudos to Federica Pellegrini who once again proved to be our best swimmer, recovering 0.92s in the relay and ending up in first place, now let's see how the team will proceed. Surprising to see the archers loosing to China but in the end 2 of the 3 members of the team were new to the Olympics, still I'm kinda disappointed given that they won Gold in 2012...

Watching the bike race at the moment, obviously this isn't the same as Le Tour as there is less team play so Froome isn't likely to win.

First medal has been awarded in Women's 10m Air Rifle Shooting. An American won. I'll put a medal table in the OP.

So not only women get to have the first event, football, even two days before the opening and one day before men, but they also get to be awarded with the first medal of the olympics just as well...

This is it, I can't stand this oppression anymore, I haveto fight for all my brothers without a voice in this sexist event ruled by women privilegies.

The Australian team has 54% women and if that doesn't gives us more medals, then it's native animals, the crocs should devour their opposition in the swimming, kangaroos high jump and long jump.

Australia 2 Gold 1 bronze should end day one on top of the medal count.

I'm thinkig rock climbing and skateboarding will be  added in the next Olympics.

Yep, alongside surfing, baseball & softball.

It's kinda odd that they removed baseball hopefully it sticks around for good after Tokyo.

Yes I was surprised that they removed baseball and softball they seemed pretty popular.

Are we saying Vietnam won or whoever funded then won? Let's not forget that we have not technically won in Iraq or Afghanistan yet either, but again win against who? We certainly did not leave any of the countries the same.

I think China is number one one medals right now, yes?

No Australia 2 gold  1 bronze followed by Hungary with 2 gold.

:o I didn't even know baseball was in it before.

It's strange how they put in and drop sports so much, once a sport is established as the Olympics is the best place for their country vs country tourament, it should stay. Baseball has been in alot, it's going to be in Japan because well japane like the sport.

Updated medal table, Austrailia leading the way.
