Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Yoshi's Island or Mario 64?

Which is better?

Yoshi's Island 42 30.22%

Mario 64 97 69.78%

Total:139

From 1995 through 1996, two flagship entries in the Mario franchise were launched.

While both were blockbuster extravaganzas from the same series, they were very different games. One was one of the last hurrahs of the SNES and the 2D era, while the other was a pioneer of the 3D era and a launch title for a new system. One remixed and reinvented an established rulebook, the other wrote a whole new one from scratch.

Even two decades later, both remain among the most beloved games Nintendo has ever produced.

But which do you think is better, and why?

Can't really say either one is better than the other since they're two entirely different games. Yoshi's Island along with DKC2 represents the pinnacle of 2D platfomers in the 16-bit era, while Mario 64 was the first game to fully realize 3D control and platforming gameplay.

Both are exceptional games that stand the test of time, but I guess you'd have to give the edge to Mario 64.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Mario 64 by a mile. Fuck that crying

I mean, it's essentially comparing apples to oranges. Both great experiences that may be favored due to one's preference.

I love both, and am still awaiting a 3DS or HD Wii U/NX port of 64 to this day. Yoshi's Island DS and 3DS leave me satisfied- now I just need Super Mario 64 remade

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

If I had to live with one, Mario 64.

I would easily chose Mario 64, although Yoshi's Island is still a great game.

For my personal taste, Yoshi's Island.

Mario 64 was pretty amazing when it came out, but it always felt tedious to me.
