Ofc it was real, the flood story in the bible was a complete copyright crime taken from several other religions and history-scrolls/tablets /runes from across the world. The summerians had it and that culture is the oldest culture we have found (If i am not outdated)

But this " If civilization was to survive, the people needed a hero who could tame the floodwaters and restore the land. That man was Yu, founder of China's first dynasty, the Xia." is wrong in so many ways. The guy was a butcher and a lunatic. But, back then that was common place.

Or, infinitely more likely, ancient civilizations simply mistook everything they could see being under water for the whole world being under water.

Sounds like they were hit by a big tsunami. Could have been caused by an earthquake, mountain collapsing into the sea or a meteor striking the Oceon.

The flood story from the bible may have also happened. An asteroid may have hit the Earth, causing huge tsunami's around the world. I heard about it awhile back, though I'll have to look for a source.
