It will be fine. As always.

No country should be picked to organise the Olympics if you look at it that way. Every country has its problems.

This.

It'll be a disaster behind the scenes and to the athletes and attendees.

For us viewing at home we wont really know any different.

People are proud of their country, you will get people defending Burma if you are lucky to see them on the internet.

Also Olympics could be fine itself (but behind the curtains a lot of problems will exist), if China can do it, a lot of countries could pull it off.

Honestly I wouldn't want to push Summer Olympics on my most hated cities, it brings nothing but ruin and wasted money. The thing is, you might get lucky and barely make a profit, but majority of the time it just brings financial burdens and one case financial ruin (Greece).

Yes, Neymar won't score a single goal.

To be honest, the games should have been cancelled and hosted in one of the previous hosts. I have no problem with Brazil, but hosting 2 big competitions this close was insanity. With the political events of late these games are gonna cost the Brazillian state and people alot. I'm sure Brazil is having to finance itself at incredible interest rates to get these games done.

It's a terrible tragedy. It would've been best for the games and the brazillians if it had been canceled. But oh well... too late now. Fingers crossed that they can at least protect the athletes.

my thoughts exactly... what were they thinking when they gave Olympics to Rio? I mean even if we ignore political and economic problems, the extreme amount of garbage that pollutes sea water is a serious issue that cannot be fixed in the short term

I really hope that everything goes well, as the country and its people suffered economically for this, at least make it worth it...

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

C'mon, Thames River water was fine for the Olympics, it's not really any better than Guanabara. Millions of people get into the water there every year and nobody died because of that.

Same news every Olympics, it'll be fine

Yes.

The olympics themselves should never be given to any country that has more important issues to be tackled.

So the Olympics shouldn't be awarded to any country at all is what you are saying ? It is so nice seing ppl talking about zika in Rio when the thing has already reached everywhere in the globe, so a wherever Olympics would have had a zika problem, and also how every European country and how USA sudenly make it seen like they have absolutly no social problems, poverty, rampart killings, insane hatred towards everyone spread across their society, robery and a fucktom of other crap when they talk about Brazil.

Europe and US are perfect. There is no violence, no terrorism, no poverty, no social problems, no zika, they have fantastic well preserved forests, clean water and the air ir pure. Thankfully there are lots of people who notice that and can tell us so we leave this terrible place called Brazil.

But seriously, there are problems everywhere, including Brazil. I do agree we suffer with violence more than Europe (although US is not really any better) and the political problems affected the Olympics, but it is far from a disaster. The water may not be perfect, but it is on par with London and Beijing, if not better, Brazilians are very receptive, the competition places are good, Rio is a beautiful place and there is a huge effort to avoid terrorism and zika problems. I don't understand why can't people just enjoy the Olympics. Many bad things were said about the World Cup here too, but it ended up being very good (except for the fact that Brazil lost).
