Forums - Nintendo Discussion - MCV: NX Graphics In Between A PS3 And PS4

I think we've all already comes to terms not to expect a Nintendo product to be in line with its competitors in terms of power.

That being said it'll be an amazing handheld. The PSP and PSV had many games that gave it a home console feel so im pretty excited to see what NX has in stores.

Yeah I agree though I do wonder what spec range it runs at in actual portable mode (as in not plugged into a wall). Anything above a PS3 for a portable is fantastic though.

Wasn't the PS Vita around the power of a PS2?

This is a huge upgrade for the handheld market

No. I think you got it wrong. The PSV was more like a 360 or PS3 power wise. The PSP was the one that had specs close to a PS2. Never the less, the detachable controler is the groundbreaking thing IMO and the one to watch out for. We already know that Nintendo can make amazing stuff on comparativly weaker hardware, so IMO the power wont be an issue.

PSV is no where close to a PS3 power wise. It can't even run the Uncharted game that it does has (which is a large downgrade in graphics from the PS3 games) at even a native 960x540 resolution.

I think it's somewhere around the PS2 and the PS3, at least that's what an older DF article said. It also benefits from a more modern architecture compared to the PS2.

Bullshit. I have Uncharted GA and Killzone Mercenaries. It puts to shame 90% of games released on the PS3. Its not quite as powerfull as a PS3, but its pretty damn close.

If by "pretty damn close" you mean like 1/5 the power, sure. The chip inside the Vita is like 40 GFLOPS.

Im sorry to ask, but any of you have even played on  a Vita? Because if you did, questions and discussions like these wouldent occur on a gaming forum. The PSV was made with PS3 ports in mind. Games like Gravity Rush, Killzone Mercenaries and Uncharted Golden Abyss are way over what the 6th generation could even dream to offer graphically.

Really makes me wonder about that thing's price and battery life..

Battery will have to be huge, probably like 10000 MaH if not slightly more ... good thing is batteries are dirt cheap, even at retail you can buy a battery that size for like $25 if you shop around, meaning the price for Nintendo ordering in millions would probably be under $15 for that part.

Yep, this: https://www.amazon.com/Jemma-20000mAh-Powercore-Capacity-More-White/dp/B01G3RVTQW/ref=sr_1_18?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1470333640&sr=1-18&keywords=20000+mah+portable+charger, is less than $25 and actually packs a 20,000mAh cell.

That's a company that are aiming to make a profit from that unit, not a huge company on Nintendo's level that can buy that tech for way less than retail cost, Nintendo has leverage because they would be able to buy in huge, sustained volume.

Yeah getting a huge battery for cheap isn't really going to be a problem. I do wonder though how much weight a battery so huge would add to a portable device, and is the battery then integrated onto the base part of the unit or does it somehow sit somewhere else to the main unit can be lighter to hold ... some interesting design decisions for Nintendo to make for sure.
