Forums - Music Discussion - Britney Spears announces her 9th Studio Album

OdinHades said:

Exciting times for all Britney fans on the forum - both of us! Just today the queen of pop announced her new album "Glory". It will be available 8/26 and is available for pre-order right now! I already pre-ordered, of course, and we also get the new song "Private Show" which Britney already teased when introducing her new perfume of the same name. So far, I love it and I can't wait for the album to arrive! Anyone else excited? I'll post my thoughts on the new album here as soon as it's available!

What the hell happened to the VGchartz forum?

Seems quite normal to me here in the music section.

You speak as if this is a fact. What exactly are you basing it on?

Life experiences, the more music a person listen the less they like this kind of music,

Or maybe because people just love being different and it makes them feel special when they listen to not-so-radio-friendly music?

This is coming from someone who hasn't liked a Britney song since her Blackout album, which has some of the most addicting and well-crafted pop tunes of all time.

Britney wrote all songs on Britney Jean and from what I heard, she also wrote every song on the new album. Sure, she gets help, there's a whole team working on the songs, but it's not like that would be something unusual. She doesn't compose music, she's a singer, not a producer, but she does have great influence in the whole process of making the music. More than ever before. Back when she worked with Max Martin, she had nothing to say at all, she just sung whatever was thrown at her, with some minor exceptions. Today that's a whole lot different. She chooses who she works with and she tells people what she expects. Kinda like Shigeru Miyamoto or Hideo Kojima. Those guys also don't do too much coding, yet they have an extreme impact on what their games look like in the end.

Look, if you don't like Britney (or her newer stuff), that's fine. But music is completely subjective in the end. You're not a clever person just because you listen to Mozart all day and can name every single note or something. People who like to listen to Dubstep aren't stupid, they just like the sound of it. Also I seriously don't know any person who is solely listening to one kind of music. I like pop, I like it a lot, but I also love to listen to some Megadeth, Manu Chao, Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Eminem and oh so many more. Sometimes I feel like I want to listen to some serious lyrics which get me to really think about something. Sometimes I prefer angry music because I'm mad at someone or something. And then there's Britney where I just feel good when I listen to the music. Love that voice, love that sound, nothing you could do about it. If that qualifies me as an idiot in your opinion, so be it.

50 years back our ancestors were absolutely certain that Rock 'n Roll isn't even worth being called music at all.

Of course nobody is an idiot just because they like Britney, not at all, and listen to Mozart does not mean you are smart, never said that, but I can't agree with someone that believes is completely subjective to think New Order, The Who or The Beatles are better than Britney, it is not, the quality, creativity and influence of their music is way way way higher than Britney's music, the thing about subjectivity is more complex than that.

Is nice to know that she has control in the process, that would mean she is at least something, but 90% of the work is not made by her, is not her talent what brights in her good songs, is other people's talent, and yes, those people you mentioned do something similar but at least there was a time where their talent was totally essential to the masterpieces they did, Britney didn't, she started as a doll singing whatever they throw at her and now, thanks to the fame and power she got because of that she controls her work by using other people talents because she never had a lot of it to begging with

I'm ok if you like her, nothing wrong about it, I enjoy some songs too, but that's how I see it, and I have heard enough music in my life (including all her albums) to have an opinion about it.

Not my case, I do listen to a lot of non radiofriendly music because I think is good, not because others don't listen to it, but I have no problem listening extremelly mainstream music as long as is good.

Wow, that discussion is like 10 years late! =D

Yeah, people cherry-picked some of her bad performance and wanted to make it look like she can't sing. But EVERY singer has his or her bad moments. Now I could present you countless YouTube Videos where she sings like a goddess, but I don't feel like it. But just for you, one of my favourites:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZZm6oHc2gA

She can sing, don't you worry 'bout that.

She butchered that song though....

alanis morissette sings that song so much better, as do many others.

I still believe shes no longer able to sing well.

Its why she doesnt do it anymore. Shes a product, thats made in a factory (studio), and her job is just to put on costumes and dance, and lip sync to the music those studios produce. She did have tallent when she was younger though, but she wrecked her voiced because she didnt care for it.

I personally dislike it, I think its dishonest, and strays to far from what music is (imo).

Well, she has indeed a better voice than the artists you mentioned if you ask me. Also there's no denying that she has some serious talent as a singer. And singing isn't as easy as many people think it is. Trust me, I tried it, I failed miserably. =D

I wouldn't say she does next to nothing for her stuff. She doesn't concentrate solely on music though. She works hard on her choreography for her shows, from what she said in interviews, she indeed plans every little detail in her shows and is constantly changing something. Then there's also her great talent as a dancer. This girl is doing some serious moves, which is quite impressive at her age. I know more than enough 20-year-old singers who can't even remotely move like that. Now you might say that dancing isn't important at all, and it sure isn't for the sound of the music. But it is something people like about Britney. I don't know if you have seen her live, but I loved it. It's almost like some weird form of a musical.

Anyway, if it wasn't for Britney, she wouldn't be around anymore. She could have just decided to quit altogether 10 years ago when she hit rock bottom. There are countless examples of similar artists who experienced just such a fate and never were seen again. But Britney got her shit together and never stopped. The sales aren't as high as they used to be, she's not dat hot shit of the youth today, but she is still around and always doing something new, experimenting with styles and whatnot.

What the hell, I'm talking too much. I think we don't disagree too much in the end. Of course there are musicians who work a whole lot more and aren't lucky enough to ever have that much of success. Of course there are artists who had way more influence on the evolution of music as a whole. Of course Britney got lucky in the beginning. But that doesn't mean she isn't doing anything at all. Also, I automatically have to respond to someone criticising my beloved Britney. I'm sorry, I just can't help it, I adore that woman! =D

Oh, last but not least, she is probably the hottest MILF in the history of mankind!

I don't think you have been following to closely what Brit has been doing lately, have you?

I truly believe that had she not disagreed with the original plan for the baby one more time music video, she'd be nowhere as successful as she is now. That video (her idea, as I'm sure you know), put her on the map. It's still her most iconic video and something most people remember her by.

Those artists were not supossed to be great singers but great musicians, and I have to strongly disagree with The Who main singer and Paul McCartney, they are way superior to Britney, not only in technique but also expressing the songs. As for the rest of the comment, can't say anything against it, we probably don't disagree that much as you say, if her music and her persona makes you happy, then more power to you, i would listen this album too just as I did with the rest and I hope to find at least 2 songs I'll like, wich is more than what I can expect from the albums of some other mainstream pop artists like Katy Perry but I'm not expecting a great album at all.
