Forums - Politics Discussion - If America forced immigrants to totally adopt our lifestyle would they still come here?

The things you stated isn't an American culture. The American culture is the freedom and the rights the constitution promises.

Im pretty sure theres a huge fraction of americans who don't share that kind of "lifestyle", how are you gonna impose it on others? Not to mention how that goes against basic human and constitutional rights. But yeah, in the land of make-believe I suppose not, that would not be appealing to anyone.

Have you been to America?

Make VGChartz great again. Stop with the xenophobic mantras. There was a time when we argued about how much a game would sell...now we just spread bigoted propoganda.

American culture is as diverse as you can get and has been that way since it became a melting pot for--that's right--immigrants.

I see absolutely no reason for people to conform except as it pertains to laws and regulations.

Learn and speak American English, Catholic or atheist,  pop culture, etc.

Would they stay, would they still come?

If you force all born Americans into that culture, will they stay?

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Im guessing you are talking more about assimilation.

One of America's better president Teddy Roosevelt had a quote, I'm assuming is what you're talking about.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag ... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

He makes no mention of religion, but loyalty to one flag, and speaking the main tongue of America, English.

What do you call a man who speaks several languages? Cultured.

What do you call a man who only speaks one language? American!

What pokoko said.

The beauty of this republican experiment is that people of all creeds, faiths, and identities can find common cause under a single flag and single constitution. The diversity of opinion and heritage is what makes this country so strong. America isn't white or Christian or heterosexual. It's the belief that all people are created equal and deserve the right to self-govern. America is an idea, not a demographic.
