I'm very interested in the VGChartz' community's take on this question: which generation was the best for Sony's first-party output? And why?

Note: for the sake of this thread, I'm including anything published by Sony as first-party.

Fifth gen? That's Twisted Metal, Crash Bandicoot, Wild Arms, MediEvil, Spyro the Dragon, Gran Turismo, etc.

Sixth gen? That's Ico, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, etc.

Seventh gen? That's Resistance, Patapon, MotorStorm, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, The Last of Us, etc.

Eighth gen? That's Driveclub, Bloodborne, Tearaway, Until Dawn, Gravity Rush, Uncharted 4, Infamous: Second Son, etc.

Choose and perish!

If we can include remasters then definitely 7th gen. But aside from remasters I had so much fun with Gow3, Gow Ascension, Infamous 1&2, Uncharted 1-3, TLoU, GT5-6, Resistance 1-3, KZ2&3 and LBP1,2.

7th gen for me.

So many great new franchises/IPs came into existence.

Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, InFamous, The Last Of Us, etc.

Though 6th gen is also awesome - need to catch up :p

Edit: DAMN - I voted 8th gen by accident n_n

Dammit Baz! The poll's useless now!

I find it so hard to pick a green as pretty much every green brought something to the table that the previous couldn't or that the latter lost.

PS1 gen had that feeling of owning an Arcade at home. I would practice on Tekken at home then whoop ass at the arcade. Then you had GOAT like OoT, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo, Mario 64 etc.

PS2 gen had Buzz, Singstar, light gun games, and tons of awesome Hack n Slash games. It have us games like DMC, Onimusha, Yakuza, Shenmue, MSR, Burnout, Otogi, Fable, Ratchet etc.

PS3 gen had gave us online play, motion gaming, Puppeteer, LBP, Motorstorm, Bayonetta, Gears, Uncharted, Resistance, Alan Wake etc

If I really had to choose one, I think it would have to be the 6th gen. No stupid DLC and Microtransactions, perfect mix between Arcade and home gaming, lots of fighting and light gun games, tons of jrpgs, platformers and light gun games.

5th Gen: Final Fantasy VII, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, Tomb Raider 2, Anna Kournikova's Smash Court Tennis, Soul Blade.

Hey, you said anything published by Sony...

I didn't expect this thread to be made by Vek xD but since I'm here, may as well leave a comment.

Surprisingly, I haven't really played any of these games, except for 1: Wild Arms. I like RPGs and cowboys, so I had to pick up at least one game in their series, and I enjoyed it. So I'd go with 5th gen myself. Oh yeah, that one has Legend of the Dragoon my Sony right? People say that's pretty good...

5th gen it is for me.

I have to go with the sixth gen on this one. Ico, in my mind, is the best Sony first-party game of all time. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is the best 3D platformer not made by Nintendo, Rare, or Double Fine. Santa Monica gave us two great God of War games, and Insomniac gave us an awesome trilogy of Ratchet & Clank games.

I think the sixth gen really learned from the growing pains of the fifth. Starting with the seventh, Sony's first-party studios started to lose touch with what made the sixth gen so successful, and the eighth gen has proved to be more of the same.
