I guess, although with how rare full time jobs are these days it seems to be more common place to live with parents longer here in Aus.

Well, there goes my theory that it's tied to average wage in the country in question...

average wage doesn't really matter if in your country 40% of people aged 18-24 are unemployed...

It's a cultural thing. I had friends in Seoul, Korea that lived at home with the parents into their 20's. Alot of that also had to do with the way they do rent.

You had to pay rent a year in advance, where the landlord, put it in the bank, and collected interest on it. I read a survey that in the US it seems alot of the young ones are deciding to live at home longer, even after graduating college. They are deciding to come back home, and live with parents into their late 20's.

It is a contrast as when I grew up, and turning 18 meant freedom, sometimes 17 depending how much someone wanted to establish their independence even facing financial struggles.

Leaving parents at the age of 18 is a huge mistake. Financially and socially.
At that age, kids are not even adults. At that stage in life, the best coaches are parents and not some stranger or another confused teenager.

That's a fair point. But is that common in the EU? Also it depends on your working definition of unemployment.

It's the normal thing to do when you go to university. At first I still came back for the weekends but that became less and less as the years went on. When I dropped out I never thought about going back home. Got a shitty job to keep living there until I found something better.
I'm glad I had a good long period to learn to take care of myself. The worst thing imo is to live at home until you get married or move in with someone else.

A lot of people in UK are doing it due to the economic chaos over the past decade and the madness that is housing in the UK.

Yeah I guess once your over 25 its abit weird, but not unheard of.

And honestly finacially its a smart move to stick with your parents until your ready to leave the nest.

Culturally, it becomes the reverse situation in my traditional culture (I consider myself more western, but my parents are more eastern), which means in the long run, the parents live with me, vs I live with them. Aka you take care of your parents because they took care of you logic.

I do one day, want to at least be alone for atleast one year however. It isn't embrassing, as much as it is limiting to me, (again eastern culture), I cannot drink, eat pork, etc, because parents are Religous.

I don't know data from other countries but I'm positive the situation is similar in Spain/Portugal while probably even worse in Greece. People who live in France, UK and Germany are definitely in a better position, also as far as Italy is concerned in that 40% there's very few part-timers since people who are under 30 are considered unreliable so most companies tend to hire older people...

I live in Spain, where, sadly, being with your parents until you are 30-35 is considered normal. Because there're simply no other options for a lot of people. The rate of unemployment in people aged 18-30 is about 50%. No one seems to give a damn though, providing the results of the latest elections.
