Perhaps this is their great idea to lower server load, by making people leave in disgust.

I can't imagine they would do that... since the game would already have turned off a lot of the casual players with the tech issues would a company go out of their way to damage their playerbase so early?

Uh, that was meant to be a joke.

The removal of the footsteps and pokevision is pretty daft... I mean it just makes the whole experience less functional, where is the + to doing that?

Thankfully I'm still grand with everything but that 70m radius is going to make one of the Gyms in my town inaccessible completely during the evenings because the gps location of it is actually just on the limit of 100m from the footpath near it. so yeah... town just lost a Gym, shame.

The radius only applies to pokemon and not gyms and pokestops. They changed the radius in which pokemon appear from 100m to 70m; while pokestops and gyms had a 40m interaction radius, which they haven't changed in this update. That's what I understood from the settings of the game they posted on reddit anyways.

Ah that isn't too bad so, just means people will be crossing roads for Pokemon but that would only happen if there was an accurate way to track them or if you have a mate walk on either side of a road to cover a larger area with their phone too.

I have to say there was nothing as cool as going around with 3 mates splitting up to cover more ground and find a Haunter who was in a shopping center where we live, really taking a mobile game to the next level.

I don't want it to be... like so very much so.

No... it was not a joke! (I'm sure of it!)

It's not just that here in Ireland we have a lot of areas which have fairly dense tree cover which absolutely destroys GPS on some low end phones, there are some areas of parks here where we just can't venture into as a group because someone will have issues and have to just wait out that part of the trip, I tend to go hunting Mon in a group of 4 so tech issues take up more than half the time we are actually going around together doing it. But yeah what I mean is... if an area was buggy before to enter but you could stay 100m away and still trigger the Gym/Pokemon in it... that was great, but now you'll have whole areas cut off from "play"

On top of the obvious fact that this new radius will mean lots more crossing of roads to get to gyms / pokemon than before since the radius will no longer reach places at the other side of the street so they have just made the game more dangerous to play.... stupid.

I've noticed a few glitches with the gyms even before this update too. Most notably, if your character decides to go running off on the map while in a gym battle, it will kick you out. That gym is then inaccessible until you battle in another gym (yes, not even restarting the game/tablet will fix this. It has to be reset in another gym).

Not sure if that got fixed in this version.

To be honest when it comes to Gyms... there is more bugs related to them than there is actually functional features, it's a bit of a shame too considering they are the means to get the in game currency without flexing our credit cards... perhaps that is why they are in such a broken state?

Don't know what that 100 to 70 meter did chanhe but I can confirm that like before, pokemon only appear after they are less than 50 meter from you. I did test this before and now its the same. If you want try it and check on Google maps the distance between you and the pokemon. 100 m is too much for them to appear.

Really? The lowered the radius? That seems unnecessary.

I have a feeling the 3-step system is going to come back, they probably just want to remove it so it doesn't constantly stick like a thorn in people's sides as a broken feature until it returns.

Guess, I am the only one who isn't annoyed by the update. It play smoother for me now, I don't care for pokevision.

Well yeah the biggest issue is they just got rid of looking for specific Pokemon. Now you have 2 options, wander aimlessly or camp spots with lures. Most people have just been camping them anyway. Pokevision brought some variety into the game.

I personally can understand them not wanting everyone to complete the pokedex that fast. Also I do want them to fix the tracking issue, (The downside of getting popular too fast).
