Seriously. Marth, Roy, and Ike get shipped together more than they get shipped with their canon ships. Cloud and Male Corrin are shipped because they were in the same direct. And Ryu and Little Mac are shipped because they're both fighting game characters.

Seriously! If you're gonna make a fanfic about two characters, don't use Smash as your base! Smash doesn't even characterize them!

Nothing really. Just that sometimes, as in with MarthXRoy, it gets shipped so much in the Smash fandom, that if you mention Caeda, you get ignored or hated on.

I don't know for certain, but it's probably just a case of Smash having 15 female characters (counting Wendy Koopa, Sheik and ZSS as separate characters and Robin, Wii Fit Trainer, Corrin, and Villager as their female forms), compared with 32 male characters (not counting Robin, WFT, Corrin, or Villager because I'm assuming them to be female, nor any of the Pokemon, Kirby, Yoshi, ROB, Alph, and Duck Hunt because they're either genderless, indeterminate, or just a giant pink puffball - funny how that last condition applies to more than one character).

So if you're going to start shipping characters from Smash Bros, you're going to run out of females before you're even half way through the guys. I'd imagine that's what's driving such a high proportion of "yaoi" shipping.

That's my theory, at least.

In terms of anime, theres quite a lot of Yaoi ships. Soooo maybe its because of that.

Assuming this is a question, it's when people pair up two male characters sexually.  Usually through art, fanfiction or dedicated tumblr pages.
