If only I had an option to hide microtransactions... They're always there to tempt me to do stuff like this.
Anyway, I know the feeling OP. I once spent 5 dollars on some CoD BLOps 3 tokens to open a rare loot chest, and the rare item was something I already had.

A few years ago I used to play LoL and when coming home after drinking me and some friends usually decided to play when we got home at night and It usually meant buying skins as well since when you are drink, you feel rich. Probably spent about 200$ on it in total so its not that bad. My friend however has put in thousands

Its not my story but I have a cousin who spent over 100€ on the Simpsons tapped out mobile game and yes he regrets it.

Thanks to people like you we have to put up with micro transactions everywhere :p

I've upgraded or sold the wrong thing too occasionally, luckily you can usually revert to an older save. Stupid mmo lite games ruin the fun. I didn't have any problems with The crew, my ocd kicked in and I had to beat all the little challenges giving me plenty of cash etc.

Sounds painful John, I really hate seeing microtransactions appearing in actual full titles like Forza, Gran Turismo and the Crew but when it comes to free titles like League of Legends and Pokemon Go especially those which do not feature advertising in the free game I completely understand why they exist, having enjoyed so much of Pokemon Go meant I wasn't in the least bit hesitant to fork over €5 for some Pokemon Coins to make the experience I was enjoying a better one by buying more bagspace for items, now after lots of Gym wins I have earned even more coins and can fund my bagspace habits without handing over more real world cash.

One question though about your game, if you have PSN+ or even without it can't you just move your save file over to a usb stick so you could revert back to a old save? or is all your info saved server side... I guess it must be if you have real world money credits... damn

Normally I only buy story DLC, most times if that DLC is heavily reduced on Steam sales.

Other kind of DLC I bought

  • some favorite songs for SingStar/Guitar Hero/Rock Band when I was still into music games... around €30 - €40 in total
  • Mario Kart 8 DLC Packs 1 + 2... it doubled the number of tracks for €7, so good deal
  • Kat (from Gravity Rush) for €1 as playable character in Everybody's Golf (Vita)... because it's Kat, and she also had great golfing skills
  • Plutia for €1 as playable character in Hyperdimension ReBirth 1 (Vita)... another game goddess early in the game reduced grinding, also her skills didn't get locked in some battles where the story characters weren't allowed access to all their skills
  • €1 for a treasure map in Uncharted: Golden Abyss... I won the game, but wanted to give at least a tiny appreciation with buying some DLC for it

But I'm guilty of buying "Complete Editions" of games even when I'm pretty sure that I only play the main game.

Gonna be a bummer here. Somehow my will has lasted through all the 99 cent deals and deluxe expansion packs.

Currently playing Neverwinter on my PS4.

The game itself is free and the gameplay and graphics are pretty good. It even has a very acceptable character creator although you do need a PS+ account (assume you also need an XBox Live account as well) since it is on-line only.

I looked at the PSN with regards to this and there are some DLC packs (they may actually be pretty good value for the money though) which do cost and if you are stupid or have more money than sense you can even purchase in-game money.

As far as gameplay goes the game plays fairly smoothly and there seems to be allot of people playing it. For the first few hours (this is an RPG after all) you actually grind but it's not that bad since the quests you are given are fairly easy and interesting. What is a bit blatant are the hints that you can do so much better if you purchased particular items although on me it's like water off a ducks back.

So far I have played over 15 hours solo and am now at level 18 (you do level up slowly). Coming from playing the Souls and Bloodborne series the game is fairly easy and I only died once mainly because I was getting tired and I made a stupid mistake. Diving headfirst into a room of savage orcs and getting cornered will do that to you.

Personally, I would recommend Neverwinter for those who like RPG's but I would be very careful about the micro transactions since they can really eat into your real money if you give in to temptation.

As an aside, I have also been playing "Child of Light" on the hardest difficulty and IMHO it is a really good game however you can also buy from PSN different types of gems which can be used to improve the attributes of your characters. I actually did a simple calculation to get what is called the Princess gem and if you purchase the appropriate packs you would be spending over $30 AUD just to get one Brilliant gem and If you want to upgrade all your party you could spend well over $100 AUD. (about $73 USD) .

I can understand paying for DLC in the form of extended gameplay such as what you can get with "Hearts of Stone" and "Blood and Wine" for th Witcher3 or "The Old Hunters" for Bloodborne since they do add to the playable length of the game but paying for items when you can pick them up during gameplay is really just targeting the weak at heart.

PS. Definitely liked Kat in Gravity Rush.  Some of those challenges were quite tough. I found the Dual Shock 4 six axis control really does help with targeting quickly.
