Fantastic retro episode that gives a deeper look to the way certain launch games showcased the possibilities of every nintendo console

Now I wonder, what will be the equivalent for NX? We mostly know Metroid is not coming that soon and BotW is actually a WiiU game, also NX doesn't seem to have any kind of ""gimmick"" in the gameplay department like the Wii or WiiU so I'm not expecting any kin of new Wii Sports or Ninendoland but more of a technical showcase to show everybody the console can run good looking games despite its limitations, something they fail to do with WiiU at launch.

tagy for later!

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

They have Zelda at launch for the next gen. That will help a lot. Wii U failed because of the lack a good new Zelda.

Everything moves according to Zelda: sales, events, press, life, the universe.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Mario 64 by far, for its time.
Nothing nintendo has done since has come close to that.

Depends on how you define 'impressive'. If we're talking about impact, nothing beats SMB because it's the game that put the entire company on the map in the console industry. Without that game, there might not even BE a Nintendo right now or at least a Nintendo that sells video games.

SM64 (the current leader in the poll) launched on a console that represents the first time the company failed to win a generation. It's their first failure. So how could SMB64 be the more impressive launch title? It ended up being the antithesis of a great launch title because it wasn't compelling enough.

To me, it goes SMB and then Wii Sports because they actually achieved the goal of getting their machines in more homes than their competitors and that's what defines a great launch title.

i disagree about Luigis Mansion, these real time shadow effects werent new at the time. Silent Hill 2 had them before, everything else is correct i guess. SH2 was also larger in size and open world for its time, i hope they make a video about this game as well.

It may not have been the most groundbreaking or influential as some of Mario's launch adventures, but on a technical level, I have to give the title to Rogue Squadron II.

I cannot overstate just how mind-blowing that game looked back in 2001. DF are right; on a CRT screen, back in the days where people were used to PS1/N64 or early PS2 graphics, Rogue Squadron II almost looked like movie CGI at first glance. It was packed with effects that even most Wii games lacked; bump-mapping all over the place, volumetric fog, self-shadowing, etc. Individual laser bolts cast dynamic light, the polygon count was obscenely high, textures were crisp and detailed, and for the most part it blazed along at 60fps.

Mario 64 was pretty staggering in its own right in this respect, but the only game that's ever made me double-take as hard as RS2 was the original Gears of War.

That's not true, Silent Hill 2 was released 10 days after Luigi's Mansion.

I'd really love DF Retro to take on some of the more technically interesting Wii games in future, like Mario Galaxy or Skyward Sword.
