Op has terrible taste lol ranks FFV first lmao i get the feeling he only played that game once because i recently replayed it and....Yeeeeeah.

Anyhow id say.

1. FFIX
2. FFVII
3. FFVIII
4. FFX
5. FFVI
6. FFIV
7. FFXII
8. FFV
9. FF
10. FFXIII
11. FFII

I don't count online FF as mainline games sorry.

Beat it once, played through to Galuf dying on numerous occasions. The only titles I feel spending more time in could change their ordering are VI, IV, and III. Otherwise I've logged roughly 20 hours in each game, some more than others (Tactics/WotL has the largest playtime, but it's still a spinoff).

There are a few things I consider in Final Fantasy games:

1. Job System. I love the job system. It was neat in 3, fleshed out in 5, and perfected in Tactics.

2. Character design. JRPGs are stylistic ventures, so i don't want my protagonist looking like an idiot. As far as my personal taste is concerned, the best way to look like an idiot is to dress like any character in IX... Except Blank (he's the only reason I made it so far into IX... I wanted him back on my team, I was just unaware that he didn't return to the party).

3. If no job system is present, characters should be fairly open in what they can do. It's one reason I like the Materia system so much. Plug in a ball, you know magic. Your stats are adjusted to reflect that. It's great. The Sphere Grid was great, too. The Draw System... Well, I didn't hate it. I definitely liked other things more, though.

4. The story. It has to reach me and connect with me. The best way to do that is by tying a major gameplay mechanic to an aspect of the story (ie, Materia), but i will always prefer a Job system to this. I'd like to reiterate that the most playtime in a Final Fantasy I've had is Tactics, and I'm still not sure what's going on. I'm in it for the job system.

Bolded: Really? because you choose FFV as your favourite lol that has one of the worst stories In Final Fantasy history, it's actually just plain stupid.

This one is easy!

1 - VI
2 - VII
3 - XII
4 - X
5 - IX
6 - VIII
7 - IV
8 - V
9 - I
10 - II
11 - III
-
-
-
12 - XIII

And considering FFVI is my all time favorite game and XIII is my single most hated game...well....Interesting to say the least. (though Final Fantasy VI, VII, XII, and X are all in my list of top ten games of all time. Also, IX, VII, IV, and V are all also within my top 25.)

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

Well, IX is the best, but I want to say the Nintendo era is my favorite because I grew up with...which is hard considering II, III and V are the worst. So Sony era it is then.

IX
VI
VII
XII
X
VIII
IV
I
XIII
XIV
XI
V
II
III

7-10 are at the top. I don't know if Sony was involved with the development stages or if Square's partnership with EA during their brief merger helped the most, but SE seemed to do better when someone else was helping them with financials and promotions of their games at the very least.  That and most of the original teams.

Edit:

1.FF7

2.FF9

3.FF10

4.FF8

5. FF6

6.FF13

7.FF4

8.FF12

9.FF5

10.FF1

11.FF2

Never played 3

I'm actually glad so many put FF VIII in very high spots!

So my list must make you really sad.

Nah, can't get sad around people with bad taste.

You didn't even play an actual Final Fantasy game yet!

Hah! You're further digging your own grave with that statement!

9 is my most favorite, 7 is my second favorite. That's as far as i'm going.

Did you just put IX behind every other mainline FF...? oh boy... ;p

I did, but only because of the trash characters, trash story, trash dialogue, and... Well, I suppose the actual combat was okay. a Return to four characters, even if every single character on screen was an eyesore.

To be fair, FF9 was originally developed to be a spinoff. It was not developed by the main FF dev team and wasn't going to be a part of the main series. That is why the game is genericized, and seems very much like a Crystal Chronicles game rather than a true mainline Final Fantasy. http://archive.thegia.com/news/n990524a.html

Likely, the reason Square decided to call it Final Fantasy 9 was so their PS2 debut could be labelled Final Fantasy X.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

1 - Final Fantasy VI
2 - Final Fantasy IV
3 - Final Fantasy IX
4 - Final Fantasy VII
5 - Final Fantasy XII
6 - Final Fantasy X
7 - Final Fantasy V
8 - Final Fantasy III
9 - Final Fantasy I (never played it)
10 - Final Fantasy II (never played it)
11 - Final Fantasy XI (never played it)
12 - Final Fantasy XIV (never played it)
13 - Final Fantasy VIII
14 - Final Fantasy XIII
