Forums - Movies & TV - Ghostbusters budget (150 Million) need 500 million worldwide to be considered successful (NOT BREAK EVEN)

Ignoring the rest of the article, because Paul Feig plays the victim card before the movie is out, I want to highlight this:

As opening day approaches, Feig can’t help but think about the stakes of making a $150 million movie. “A movie like this has to at least get to like $500 million worldwide, and that’s probably low,”

With that said, I think it is safe to assume, that ghostbusters is not succesful, and that just being production budget costs are not metric of success.

Add: I need to travel, will add more of my thoughts when I make it to work, and have a bit of time to kill.

Sony pictures makes cheap and shit movies. Plus they lack direction. This is kinda expected.

That's what happens when you antagonize with the potential userbase and make a whole drama about it.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Never ever will this make $500 million.

The people who wanted to watch the movie already did, and the rest will be just curious to see it. The numbers of people seeing it decreases with time. After 1 month or 2 month. No one will care for it anymore. Probably estimated world wide money will be between $200 and $250 million.

Theres nothing wrong with being cheap.

Take shelter only has a budget of 5 mil and the movie was brilliant. That was Sony picture classics but still, point stands.

Fieg is probably taking EVERYTHING into account including back end stuff. I'm sure the studio will be fine with it making less, but it probably needs over $400 mil for everyones to get their money and back end / points.

lol as of writing this I though tthe movie would have done well WW but that doesn't seem the case. Glad to see it flop so hard. I guess there is no way this is making more than $200 mil. Now resudiuals definitely aren't going to be given.

Money Monster was a good movie even though it had a relatively low budget. Sony Pictures' blockbuster stuff is generally lacklustre, but many of their smaller movies are good.

Though I don't take this quite at face value. In that case, movies like Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and Thor 2 performed anywhere between sub-par to mediocre, despite the studios behind them being pleased with the result. The industry estimate for this movie to be a success is 300 million at the Box Office, +more after DVD/Blu-ray and streaming revenues

I disagree; Star Trek's last 3 movies fell short of 500 mil, the last 2 had 185M budgets and a fourth is confirmed.

Ghostbusters probably won't get a sequel, but not because of the 150/500M formula.

It's often production budget times 2 to break even. Marketing and promotion costs take the other half.

Wow, I had a feeling this wouldn't do great, but this is bombing way harder than I thought.
