Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So, now we know about the Nintendo NX. And knowing is half the battle

Tagged games:

There is a book called the Blue Ocean Strategy ( Renée Mauborgne, W. Chan Kim) which Iwata said lead into developing the Wii console.

I have the book, it states that competition is not the way to go, instead of fighting for a market that big players want, a company should do something that no one else is doing and getting a new market where there is no one playing yet.

So, I guess the NX is that once again, trying to build something new in terms of audience instead of fighting the big sharks.

That said, the WiiU also was trying to do that, and it failed miserably. I myself have a WiiU and the only game that I love in the system is the launch title ZombiU. I guess there are some good titles out there, but it is somewhat lackluster and it is hard to deny that.

So, it seems like a good idea: Nintendo will try to get the convention goer gamers, the handheld crowd, these people ALL have 3DSs and they carry them in their proverbial backpacks in their little conventions. So, the handheld aspect will generate right away a 20+ million market.

But, wait, there is more...

POKEMON.

If it is a handheld, there will be a pokemon, another 10 million market.

And finally, the Nintendo die hard console gamers, they will buy this thing and support it like a single mom does to his only child, another 10 million market right there.

Also, being a handheld, tons of shovelware and easy ports from phone games (cause the hardware, as reports say, is similar), so, not a audience, but tons of revenue.

So, as a market decision, it is pretty amazing, it is a profit oriented decision.

But, again, Myamotto said it was super different and out-of-the-box, and that I fail to see in such a project.

With all that, I think it is a amazing move profit wise, and it will repair the financial damage the WiiU caused.

The profit oriented Nintendo is now a well oiled machine, with the Mini NES and the Mobile games, the company seems to be firing at all cilinders profit wise.

Edit: Gotta love that Android profit...

Maybe they are going for a repeat of that and the profit of shovelware that the mobile chip will bring. I am thinking cheap or free ports of the thousands of mobile games, maybe that is what Nintendo wants. I am only expeculating though.
I am trying to understand what Nintendo wants and my idea is that they want the 3DS money all over again plus the shovelware money from the mobile game ports in the NX, if the mobile like chip report is true.
Like, right now in the Android there are thousands of crappy games making millions, I guess Nintendo could make a very easy profit putting this stuff in their store.

What do you guys think?

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I still think that there is information missing. maybe nintendos big hook inovation is yet to be discovered. Cuz as it stands right now, its just a handheld.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

Until Nintendo reveals and confirm, I still feel we know nothing lol

Until Nintendo actually shows the damn thing, all those rumours are that, rumors. We DONT know what the NX is.God, people take everything at its face value...

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

So what you are saying is you think it will sell 40 million, but you still think it will be a success?

The info that supposedly tells us what the NX will be like is still based on rumors. We won't know what the NX actually is until Nintendo shows it off.

Lol. I don't believe that rumor for a second.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Sorry for the double post.

double post

1 st your math is very questionable
2 nd Nintendo at this minute is not operating like a well oiled machine nor has been for some years
3) things may be looking better after they release the NX but could just as easily look much worse depending on the NX itself and how Nintendo executes as a company
4) for a company like Nintendo, that has history, powerful ip, a loyal following, experience and plenty of cash ; it took major incompetence to perform as poorly as they did with the Wii u and that level of incompetence will not be fixed overnight
