Forums - Gaming Discussion - Damn you, Gamestop! ("New" gutted copies.)

I think we all know by now that when Gamestop places a copy of a game on the shelf as "new," it's a copy that has been opened with the game disc stored behind the counter somewhere.  I want to be the one who first opens a new game by removing its shrink wrap.  Also, it helps guarantee the case isn't scuffed and the instructions are in near mint condition from who know how many people who have handled it.

I just ordered the elusive Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3: V Generation NEW from Gamestop's website.  I figured they would have had several copies of it new in factory sealed shrinkwrap.  Well, guess what?  It was a GUTTED "NEW" copy.  What gives?  Does Gamestop gut all of their "new" games at the warehouse to prevent employees from stealing them?  Did stores send back their gutted copies to the warehouse, and I happened to be the unlucky one to get that special "new" copy when according to their website there are more new copies in stock?  Was this actually a used game that they are passing off as "new?"  Yeah, I've got to give them a call to see how they'd respond to this what appears to be a scam.

oh it absolutely sucks. and dumb employees often scruff the new disks because they're incompetant

Yea I hate that nonsense. One of the main reasons I dont bother going there anymore

I mean, I get why they do it. Security and all that. Personally though, I prefer the alternate approach a coulple of Game Stops in my area have done: they will have an empty unwrapped case you take up there but then they swap it for a still-wrapped case wuth the game. Basically, the shelf displaye are just for choosing your game.

What bugs me even more than that is the price stickers they use are often tough to get off without leaving a sticky residue.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

This sucks. It happened several times to me whenever I wanted to buy a new game from them. They just looked for the cover and then rummaged on their shelves to find the disc. Makes me glad they're gone from Puerto Rico. Good riddance.

That's what they're supposed to be doing... you only give the gutted copy when you run out of new copies.

They'll probably do nothing for you. Try to go against the whole company, they stick by their guns and won't boulder. I really wonder why they're still in the business when there's better alternatives, but I guess they have more locations and not everyone would rather travel farther to a Best Buy instead.

I stopped going/buying to Gamestop after I found out what their "new" games policies/practices are. I bought the opened, sticker on case, disc clearly had previous handle and finger prints "new game", and never went back.

Amazon and Best Buy are where its at.

My copy of Quantum Break came with an Alan Wake code that doesn't work. I'm not happy but how do I prove it was them? I already had the game on disc but it still sucks that my code didn't work.

So they don't have Amazon or literally any other online store in your country?

No wonder Gamestop is so successful if people constantly buy there without any reason at all.
