It will, indeed, be a flop. But because of the same reasons the WiiU was a flop: Software.

And that's precisely it. Nintendo doesn't necessarily need to compete directly with X1 and PS4 when they have a perfectly successful category that's entirely their own. Especially when it's a category that's comparable in size to the X1 or PS4 userbases.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

PS4 and XB1 aren't portable, and I think the whole detachable controller/local multiplayer aspect of the system will be central to it providing different styles of experiences (may be more in common with old school arcade gaming where people would gather around an arcade cabinet).

There are alot of home console owners, that will buy a NX for use's not related to it being portable.

Those sales go away, if it is priced near other home consoles that could be upwards of 3 times as powerfull.

Basically if this launches at higher than 299$ I think nintendo could be in trouble, sales wise.

Making PS4/XB1 style system at this stage would have bigger chance for a flop.

All that would happen if Nintendo released say a 2.5 TFLOP system would be that people would say "look how much better XYZ third party game is on Scorpio or Neo!" and it would just be Nintendo hardcore buying that. No one wants three consoles that do the exact same thing, it's never, ever once worked in this industry.

At least this is something different and in a wheelhouse that Nintendo is successful at (portable).
