Forums - Politics Discussion - Pet ownership - morally reprehensible?

All you have to do is look at the kind of lives that wild/stray cats and dogs live to know that they're infinitely better off under the care of a loving owner

Yeah, sure those fluffy little kittens/puppies or whatever you have may be cute and all. But really think about it, you're holding another living being captive for your own personal pleasure. You're denying them the chance to live their own lives, the chance to choose and acquire their own food, the chance to do anything they want to do whenever they want to do it and possibly even the chance to reproduce as well. And that's the people who don't abuse their pets, for those it's so much worse...

How do you justify it? Can you even justify it?

I have no pets, and you can easily justify it. It is being fed, nutured and cared for, plus it was by selective breeding of past generations when we were hunters, that made them what they are today, they sort of joined up with us as much as we did them (Survival of both was more insured). On top of which the more people have pets, the less likely they produce in large number.

As your post on my wall indicated, you really only made this thread to spite the community as a whole.

Don't make any more politics threads, please.

I like it, it gives a new fire in this horrid subforum.

They're much better off then other animals in the world

How does that justify it exactly? I mean if you were to keep humans as pets but feed, nurture and care for them would that be ok?

Isn't that what it means to raise children?

Totes Children.

Those cute pets have been bred to no longer be wild animals.
Most of them would die if you released them into the wild again.

You keeping them and treating them well, and makeing sure they have food and shelter? I bet most of those animals are happy to be kept.

i think most pets have happy lives,..

...but i do agree with that last bit. a responsible pet owner will jerk their animal of at least once a week.

I'm sure a dog would much rather eat bugs  and possibly get hit by a car instead of eating a variety of things and being safe from all kinds of dangerous situations.

Ka-Pi... are you part of... Team Plasma..? :-O

It's cause we 'ef'd' up their environment by building houses and buildings that it is our duty to at least take care of them...or at least take care of the cute ones :P

On a side note speaking of pets: My friend had to give his pet parrot away to a farm because his new place wouldn't allow pets, only for my friend to find a Kijiji ad that's looking for a lost parrot a few months later lol.
