I don't care about power, i have a pc for that. But Nintendo should reveal the thing because all the rumors are like bad PR if they don't show why the NX is unique and why the games are unique.

They will in september or october i believe.

Of course. It'd just be too expensive for a handheld and too weak for a 2017 console :P

and this is one of the reasons why I think a hybrid wouldn't be a great idea unless it's only one of mulitple form factors for the NX.  People can talk about things like a docking system and detactable controllers but then you're starting to get to a level where things might get too complicated or too much of a hassle for the average person.

Exactly man. I can't see this working in Nintendo's favour. I hope the rumour is false or poorly worded (Tiny controllers or a giant handheld? :p)

I personally care about it because I believe power and ease of development/porting are two of the bigger indicators on whether or not the NX will get 3rd party support.  The only way I can see Nintendo lacking those two things and still get 3rd parties on board is if the NX somehow becomes so successful that they have no choice but to support it.  If Nintendo's revolutionary gimmick that they've been worrying about microsoft and Sony stealing is a mini-tablet with detactable controls and a hdmi port then I'm getting worried.

Regarding memory bandwidth, Nintendo will likely be using some kinda of embedded or even a very small pool of HBM.

Even the 3DS has a small pool of high speed embedded RAM.

LPDDR4 can be made faster too, the LPDDR4 in Apple's iPad Pro is 51GB/sec for example.

Perhaps someone with more tech knowledge can answer this to me. Is it feasible for Nintendo to create a system with power roughly on par with the XBox One in a shell the size of a 3DS XL, with battery life of more than 3 hours?

Could they do it on a system that about the size of an ipad?

It doesn't seem feasible to me, but I'm no expert.

don't forget that a big chunk of the 3ds is due to the 3d.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Because powerful hardware goes beyond just shiny visuals, it allows devs to make more expansive and lively open worlds, better A.I. more enemies on screen for action games etc, you know more ambitiuos gameplay design. If we go by the "only gameplay matters" mantra of some gamers, why do we need new hardware at all? I think that the people not realizing this is as shallow as the "only cares about graphics" crowd.
