According to the list, there were just as many terrorist incidents in 2016 as in the last 40 years in Germany. Terrorism is terrorism, just because someone did not manage to kill anyone does not make it less severe. What if that guy in Ansbach was successful and managed to kill dozens of people, is it now worth mentioning because there is a body count?

I'm not trying to be abrasive or suggest everyone should hide in a bunker in fear of a terrorist attack but we shouldn't internalize these things as normal.

I would recommend people reading the European Union Terrorism Situation Trend 2015 and 2016 reports. They offer statistics like number of arrests and attacks of jihadi, left-wing, right-wing, ethno-centric terrorists.

One thing that stuck out to me was the titling of Chapter 2. In the 2015, it was titled "Religiously Inspired Terrorism", but the title in the 2016 report is "Jihadist Terrorism".

In 2014, total arrests and attacks were 774 and 199, respectively. 395 of the 774 arrests (51%) were done on religiously inspired terrorists. In 2015, total arrests and attacks were 1077 and 211, respectively. 687 of the 1077 arrests (63.7%) were done on religiously inspired terrorists/jihadists. France had it the worst, doubling from 188 arrests to 377 arrests.

Well,

but at least for Germany it's rather not a big issue in comparision to France and Belgium. So far, Germany had only minor attacks with no deaths except that one in 2011 and that one in munich 1972.

It's obviously more likely to die in an accident.

Actually, it's not even worth mentioning, but the media makes a huge deal of it.

The only terror which is being done in the countries is not by the terrorists, but by the media itself.

That's not what my intention was in saying nearly no kills. My issue is that people act as if Europe was a dangerous place, because of terrorist attacks. And that statement is being supported by pointing at France, Belgium and Germany, whereas Germany still doesn't fit, because Islamic Terrorism hasn't hit Germany in huge way, yet. I'm not trying to be ignorant of those recent stuff that happens, but I'm more against people saying that it is now a place to be avoided. I'm also not saying that you should avoid France and Belgium aswell.

Terrorism is all about making people fear, and if you act like "Europe is fucked now" you'll make them win. And the media is just supporting this fear. All I hear in the news are, "is germany now safe? Can I go outside?" and such stupid stuff. I mean, you still drive a car even if a lot of accidents occur on the street. It's just stupid.

What I don't get is why the EU doesn't act upon this. The  facts are presented, now it's time to see what to do.

It's only natural to be scared especially when innocent civilians are the target and large scale attacks (such as in France) have become more common, that's why terrorism is effective. Chances are that most people won't be affected by terrorism and most European countries will still be safe but we're all affected by the new culture of fear that has taken hold.

How much fault does the media have for this? They have to report the news and people want to know that they're safe. We can't force them to stop, that would mean we would no longer have a freedom of press which would eventually snowball into the erosion of democracy. In other words, shooting the messenger is not the right course of action.
