Forums - Gaming Discussion - What game got you into a game genre you hate (or still hate)?

Now I'm sure many of you are in this situation. There is always this one game genre in which you've always hated, and can never stand. But then you find one game, and its perfect. From there, sometimes we can learn to appreciate the other games in that genre, or that game may simply be an outlier. What game did that for you? Take my example, I've never been a big fan of RPGs (still don't enjoy that many of them). I tried the elder scrolls, witcher, diablo, final fantasy, kingdom hearts, and many others. I just could never get into those franchises, and frankly haven't gotten into them since. But the game that got me into the genre was Mass Effect. It was enjoyable, had a great dialoge system, lots of choice, and you could do as much or as little exploration as you wanted. You could be mister nice guy, a total bastatd, or somewhere in between. The trilogy is amazing to play today, though the first is still my favourite. I give props to Bioware for making an RPG enjoyable for both people who usually don't go into the genre.

So what game got you into a genre you hate (or still hate)?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I generally dislike JRPGs, but I loved the Xenoblade games

I generally dont like Horror games.

Resident Evil got me hooked though, its more the story telling elements and the survivial that appeals to me than the horror though.

hate shooting games.

Splatoon made me change my opinion though. I realize that creative shooters can be spectacular.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Red Faction II for the first-person shooters. Don't hate it as much as before, but I'm very picky on which game of that genre I am going to spend time on playing.

I never hated FPS's, I played my share of Doom and Wolfenstein in the 90's, but I never enjoyed it much either. That is, until I bought Far Cry 3. I love that game =) It opened up my eyes for FPS games again and I'm not as quick to dismiss then any more.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I never quite liked rpgs. But ever since I completed The witcher 3 I'm a huge rpg fan.

I'll say ES3: Morrowind opened my eyes to both FPS and western RPGs, though it's not til this gen I've really given FPS a fair shake.

Killzone 2 got me into FPS games. I had played games like Bioshock and Halo CE and 2 before but Killzone was the one that got me really interested in the genre, even though the other ones I mentioned were also pretty good.

Now my interest in the genre has gone down due to oversaturation, but I still enjoy Far Cry, Battlefield and Halo.

Well, I don't like shooters, but I like Splatoon, haha.
