someone finally gets it.

I am split between all three choices. I would like a new metroid, I would like a new IP and I would love for them to take on a an existing IP. I've wanted Star Tropics to return since forever for instance..

In the end, I voted new IP because that is always exciting.

A new IP would be exciting to see from Retro! It's not the same company it were 10 years ago, when they made the Prime trilogy, and I'm not sure if they're as good as they were once, but a new IP would be great. Something a little more story driven perhaps, or something that has an intriguing story at the very least.

I'm still waiting for the next Golden64....

Metroid Prime is THE "corest" or "cores" as far as Nintendo goes. It has the most appeal for that type of player and needs a brand new, high definition sequel imo. That's my wish.

I would like them to do something different than what Nintendo Japan does, that was the whole point of the creation of the Studio, to have talents making a type of games that Nintendo can't do themselves, like Monolith making big RPGs. But Retro spent 6 years making 2 games that any Nintendo studio could have done. What a waste...

Also, they spent enough time doing Metroid games, they deserve to work on anything they want. Nintendo needs to do a Metroid game, but there is plenty of developers out there that could handle development.

I know I don't want them to do another Donkey Kong game ever again, those are boring AF.

new IP!

I think they should be given the opportunity to make something new. Nintendo needs that. But as long as it is not more Donkey Kong related things i am fine with anything they do

"New IP" gets my vote.

The original purpose for which Retro was acquired by Nintendo was to make the kind of more mature/Western oriented games that Nintendo EAD is either unable or unwilling to make.

As such, I'd like to see them pursue this objective by creating a new franchise along the lines of Uncharted or Gears of War, something to add variety to Nintendo's catalogue of mostly E-trated cartoon fare, while also giving Retro the opportunity to fully flex their creative muscle without the limitations of an established series.
